One thing I appreciated about TOS a bit later in life, was could discover the inspirations behind some of the writing, as those authors and stories were classics by then. And the show itself wasn't a movie budget per EP (tho money did play a role in the storytelling back then no doubt... just inspiring more bang-per-buck in S1/S2, and less snowballing costs forcing business cases to overrule storytelling)... so far more like a stage production than today's fx-biased bloated franchises (Discovery anyone?)
Took a bit of head scratching: TOS equals Star Trek: The Original Series. (Hey, EGR I know...) You and ETC are both fluent in esoteric. competing with Tombucktoo, as far a being a laborious read?
Hehe -- anything you don't know, just plug into Google, Mendel. Not trying to be a smartarse but the conversation were aimed at someone who knew what that meant When you don't know terms / lingo of a thing, of course they'll seem esoteric; I exp it too w/ Alpha nephews / nieces And have already established that if you dislike reading so much, wishing I'd compose more bumper sticker posts may leave you wanting
I'm returning the favor of using key words and tricky phrases that were glibly tossed about in this forum back in the salad days...before iPhones...Trump....Bitcoin....Tesla's IPO....etc...etc... Like some of the otha Sci-fi series back before green screen, CGI, and outsized budgets? They actually had to WRITE THOUGHTFUL STORIES....and ACT and stuff. Well....OK. Most of the stories were well thought out in TOS.
being a pre-teen kid when TOS originally aired - (vent) who wasn't equally disgusted when the show was moved to a later time slot & then all together replaced by that stupid spy series, the saint - which was a fail - in short order
Money and advertising. People often as not forget that Sci-Fi was very much looked down upon back in those days as non-serious dime store novel junk....when they were not making hamburgers out of sacred cows, and tackling some fairly progressive moral issues - overpopulation, pollution, nucular wah, race relations, economics..... LOTS of jittery advertisers back then.
Google tells me: 1: Terms of Service 2: Thoracic Outlet Syndrome 3: A maritime services company headquartered in Rotterdam (on page 3) ... nothing more by page 10.
A novice to Google then (which I'll guess correctly by your other posts, you cannot possibly be). Try adding 'star trek' to your search terms, newbie. It is what we were referring to, wasn't it? Or didn't you read the previous posts referring to it?
Ah -- not heard The Saint talked about in forums the longest time. Yes it is ridiculous Oddly got to know about the '60s series from the '90s movie starring the late Val Kilmer, which was also pretty meh. But sticks in my head due to the soundtrack... which even for clueless-about-music Me, was a good one: Orbital, Sneaker Pimps, Daft Punk, Luscious Jackson, David Bowie, Duncan Sheik, Duran Duran, Moby, and the Chemical Brothers were some of artists contributing. Still have the CD somewhere... And look -- someone else who knows what TOS stands for, other than work or trivia
I.e. one needs to already know part of the answer in order to find the answer. I did watch numerous episodes of the original Star Trek during its first round of reruns, but TOS was never part of the lingo. Follow-ons appeared as and after my TV viewing habits waned.
I do not need Google. That's why I have a dictionary. I grew up before internet and don't see why the internet is necessary.
The internet, like dictionaries are not 'necessary' but rather each are tools. Having grown up in the dark ages before Algore invented the internet, I actually know how to use each of them...AND each of them require the end user to have a rough idea about what they are searching for. If you're wondering about a discussion of Star Trek episodes and you are curious about the term "TOS" then enter "Star Trek" and TOS into a search engine.......even a horrible one (Looking at YOU - Bing!) and one would have the correct answer on the first page of results. You would STILL have to interpret (or ASSume) which answer fit the question - but that's something else entirely - eh? Same with dictionaries. You have to know that oppos begin with an 'a' to find out that they are a fleshy, usually rounded edible or an idiom indicating something cherished.....OR a company founded by a 'Richard'.....OR....in the plural form, a taunt after a victory or a success. Context. The internet is simply rapid access to DATA. As with many things in life......this isn't the same thing as truth.....or even facts.
What people search for - makes one wonder if Library science & the Dewy decimal system will be gobbled up by Ai does. Legal research databases (IE LexisNexis, Westlaw etc) have been doing that since the '80s.
My Google result when searching for TOS did include the Star Trek meaning, but it was down the page, after several other possibilities. Consider your audience more? Or increasingly you start getting “tuned out”, by certain demographics, generations.
One could start speaking another language and then everyone would have to google translate it all. Pero creo que eso no sería muy amable de parte del escritor, ya que no hay razón para usar dicho idioma cuando sabe escribir perfectamente en inglés.
156 Pages that you started and we should consider the audience? Good moderation would have stopped this ramble years ago. You have to remember the content is not curated, accurate or relevant much of the time.
But I didn't say perfectly. I said perfectamente. There's a difference. One is in English and the other is in Spanish. Besides, everyone's definition of perfect English is different. How many people still switch should for would in first person?
