My 09 prius makes a unique noise from the console, no idea what it is. No check engine light It also seems to go through oil more quickly then it should. Last time it was in the shop was due to a fuse going out, due to a water pump electrical failure that ended up with the pump melted into the side New pump and fuses, no electrical issues since (except the main screen going out) Video of noise and interaction. 169,000 miles Gen 2 2009
Maybe one of the HVAC actuators on the driver's side of the evaporator? Those are up underneath the dash and visible if one's head is facing up next to the brake or accelerator. Normally those sorts of things tend to make a "hunting" sound when broken, but I suppose if the gears stripped the motor could just go round and round forever, which is very much what that sounds like. Was the MFD replaced? Either way, it could also be a noise from the electronics inside vibrating. Doesn't really sound like that, but still, possible. Pull the MFD out as far as it will go while still plugged in and you can probably tell if the sound is coming from the back of the MFD.
