The surround cameras are nice - has anyone heard of or found a way to access the existing on board cameras instead of buying a separate camera system for traffic accident recording? I'm guessing Toyota is already recording stuff in the black box we don't normally have access to.
as far as I can tell there is no recording of the backup, panoramic view or digital rearview camera. Looking at Techstream there does appear to be recording of the ADAS camera but it requires some proprietary software to view the recordings not available with the version of Techstream I have. In theory you should be able to record the other cameras but it is probably a lot easier to just purchase a dash cam, digital rear view mirror or whatever other camera system with built in recording function. Toyota does sell a digital rear view mirror with recording function on a couple of Lexus models and Toyota Harrier and I think I am close to be able to get it to work but it has been awhile since I have paid any attention to it. Alpine Japan also sells a Digital rear view mirror and if I had to restart my project of installing an oem/aftermarket digital rear view mirror with built in DVR I would seriously consider the alpine japan models with dual cameras and built in recording function. They are cheaper when it comes down to getting all the parts and they are intended to be installed aftermarket so they include instructions and other helpful support documents.
Thanks for the info. The car already has the digital rear view mirror camera display. I was considering adding some front/rear cameras but it's a PITA to run wires for power and/or signal and I find the SD card storage isn't always reliable especially when getting baked in the sun all day. I have an older garmin with a built in camera but once it gets hot the device shuts down constantly. Trying to use the onboard cameras makes more sense to me. I wish Toyota would let us access the camera data for the hardware we already paid for.
