    I am taking our 2013 to Gasket Masters in Manteca (Ca) tomorrow for a 9:00am diagnostic appointment. We'll see what they have to say after scoping cylinder #1 and the rest too, I assume. I did not pull the wipers and cowls after all, to check the plugs and scope #1 cyl. I did not have time.

    @Mendel Leisk and I think
    I dropped it off at the Manteca, Ca Gasket Masters this morning. Their prices were very affordable.
    I was very pleased to hear the prices!
    $1,850 Replace Head Gasket- Includes: Fel-Pro head gasket, Intake Gasket, New head bolts, new seals as needed, Denso Spark Plugs, PCV valve, Clean EGR valve & install a pre-cleaned EGR Cooler, Oil and filter change, One year, unlimited miles warranty.
    • +$350 for OEM Toyota Water Pump, if needed.
    • +$350 for Rebuilt & Resurfaced Head, if needed. He had two shiny rebuilt heads available on his bench! Surfaced (within spec.), Valves lapped, etc. (very impressed!).

    Tomorrow morning, I'll hear back if they need to use a rebuilt head or a new water pump. Plus, Andres will be sending me pics I requested of the top and bottom of my head as well as a pic of the cylinders. I'm looking forward to learning what the wear and tear on our PIP at 214K looks like from the engine internals. I love this kind of detail. ;o)

    I'd probably spend the $350 for the pump while the patient is still on the table. The $350 for the head may be a good bargain too - especially in the So-Cal.
    Your traction battery may still be good for a few years and miles (are they Li-Ion) and you live where gas is nearly twice when mine is and the number of miles on your Prius points to high mileage use.
    Besides....you already KNOW how much you like THIS car.

    Let's put it this way...ALL of your taxes will be cheaper in this car, and probably your insurance as well.
    It's good on gas, and if you get just ONE more year out of it you will be money ahead - especially when you consider what one year's worth of payments would be on a replacement.
    People always like to think about payments - but they often fail to appreciate registration and insurance increases.
    Good Luck!
    LET US KNOW how it works out.

    Yeah, I wish I had said go ahead and install the rebuilt head. 40 mins. later, I called back to see if it was too late to change my mind to the new head. They were already 30 mins. into installing the original head. Oh well, original head it is then. ;o)

    For reference, the lions share of discussion on my Prius head gasket adventure has been on the following thread:
    Head Gasket Replacement Shop Recommendations- San Francisco Bay Area
    I had started this shop inquiry thread a few days after my P0301.. thread and the conversations on my 2013 Gen 3's headgasket diagnosis, recommendations etc. were mostly on that second thread.
