I've had my car over a year now but have never received any updates at all. I have checked on the media but it says 'up to date'. I'm beginning to think the OTA update isn't working. It's 16 months now without anything, seems unlikely? Cheers.
The Gen 5 Prius is not a software-defined vehicle (SDV). Any OTA update is only for its multimedia system, and don’t expect many, if any at all. The new Gen 6 RAV4 is partly an SDV.
As long as OTA stands for Only Talked About I think it's working. After all, it's not like they named the company TOYOTA after such a feature.
I've been driving my Prius Phev/Prime XLE since November 2024. On April 15, 2025, the multimedia system automatically updated via OTA. This happened when I left, and it took 30 minutes to complete. (version 2200) When I restarted the navigation screen, I saw 5 top favorites + "Home address" at the bottom of the destination selection screen (previously, these were among all favorites). Since October 20, 2025, there has been a warning in the "Notification" box that a new OTA update, version 14.2, is gradually being released in Europe (I currently have 14.1). I haven't received anything yet. I'm currently living back in Belgium, and in June 2025 and October 2025, I downloaded an "EU map" update myself, each time via the "My Toyota" website, to my PC (free for 7 years) (takes 30 minutes) and "zipped" it (took 1 hour) onto a USB-C stick, then installed it in my Prius (30 minutes). These map updates are cumbersome, but IT was my job. You can also have these EU map updates performed at a garage.
