2009 Prius 248000km Death triangle no codes

I think more than likely that cheap think scanner just can't see all the computers in the car to get you your codes the red tri. Is telling you pike hayeee take a peek over herr at this orange light .... Your scanner may not know what that orange light is attached to so it thinks all systems go . Cars got too much going on for some tools

 

If the battery is ten years old, change it.
Then get an autel maxi 200 to read the codes

 

I took a quick look at thinkobd 100 and it's a BASIC OBD2 reader for ICE cars. NO access to ABS or Traction battery ECUs - It's only looking at the ICE ECU. So go find a better scanner that will scan ALL ECU's in that car. If it threw a red triangle, there's a error code stored someplace.

BTW; if you had an actuator issue, you'd also get traction control lamp. Get the 12V battery tested; 11.9V isn't low enough to trigger anything. That happens closer to 10.5V.

 

It means that you need a better scanner to read the trouble codes. If the warning lights are on, there are trouble codes that should be read.

I recommend the Autel AP200. It is a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle and you install the Autel app on your phone. You need internet connection to set it up.

Did you check the oil?

 

Yep. 12V battery with low voltage causes red triangle. (Although based on my experience it's not consistent).
(Had it most recently today. Or technically yesterday. I was scanning codes and the triangle appeared. Cause was that the car had managed to suck my 12V down to 10V. Battery capacity must have gotten very low. My fault as there have been a few times I have forgotten to disconnect the 12V battery after driving or thought that I would be driving again soon, but didn't.

 

Did he tell you what the trouble codes were?

That's more important here than whatever J. Random Hybrid Expert may have thought they meant.

If he didn't tell you the codes, maybe you can call back and find out if he kept any record.

 

Was the "red triangle" on when the mechanic scannered for trouble codes?

If so, what trouble codes did the mechanic find?

 

On my car, red triangle caused by low 12V battery voltage does not appear to ever cause a code, but modules like ABS/VSC/TRAC can log "Low battery positive voltage" or something like that.
(My money says that this was done on purpose to prevent lots of trips to the dealer during warranty period for a code that just requires charging or replacing the 12V to fix).

 

Have you cleaned out and tested the traction battery cooling fan assembly? The error may be related to the traction battery getting too hot?? You need to use your AC system, since the traction battery air intake is pulled from the car's internal cabin.

Are you talking about the 12V battery or traction battery? As I stated earlier, you need a better scanner to read the rest of your onboard computers.

Did you:

- Install the Autel MaxiAP200 app;
- Create an account with Autel & activate the dongle (with the dongle serial number);
- Choose Toyota as the "free" car brand;
- Download the Diag Asia & Toyota apps;
- Connect the dongle & phone via bluetooth;
- Launch the app - select your "area" (Australia? I assume) - then select Toyota - year - model & connect to your car;
- Autoscan all systems

The Autel device and app only work with each other. You would need a different device for DrPrius. (it's an app that's useful for monitoring HV battery data but otherwise is quite limited)

The Veepeak will work well with the Dr Prius app, but the Dr Prius app is very limited when it comes to reading trouble codes. The Autel AP200 is capable of reading all the trouble codes that the Prius could have. Install the correct Autel app like described in post #17.

What codes did the Dr Prius app find?
