Featured EVs are not for everyone

No way that two-stroke engine would make it here. Didn't they turn to VW for a cheap reliable engine? Heck, Mazda got an ear full with their rotary engine. They made a lot of power, but they were dirty, inefficient, and unreliable.

 

One other one in Canada was the Russian Lada, an old Fiat clone. The guy who imported the Yugo in the US, first failed at his own "safest car in the world". the gull-winged Bricklin. One of the Canadian Provinces supported the company with their pension funds and lost a LOT. No cigarette lighter because smoking is dangerous. LOL

The new rotary engines may fit that bill. Small; light, compact, reliable, and burns much cleaner than a diesel.

 

I like the idea of different technologies being developed. I'm not saying we all should be driving rotaries, or 2-strokes, or diesels. But you never know what changes there may be to a certain technology one day. The same can be said of hybrids. If manufacturers went with one and only one technology, then research and development on other technologies would stall and could end up being a missed opportunity for a better, cleaner technology.

 

I filled up my ZR1 with Premium Unleaded yesterday...and it's still cheaper than it was during the last administration.

 

Both nationwide and Texas average prices are $0.10 - 0.15 more expensive today than the last day of the previous administration.

 

I do see a point in Bob's way of doing things. The current party isn't going to hold office forever. A solar panel will retain it's ability to produce electricity for decades, a century or more. But I don't think anyone is going to be able to save up 4 or 8 years worth of premium gasoline for when the administration changes back over.

I just need to get solar panels and an EV the next time there are incentives for one and it makes financial sense.

 

The last day? When PU cost almost $6 a gallon during the previous...I'll take it all day long. Still waiting on the New Roaster to come out...which also doesn't make financial sense...or save the planet.

 

Per https://gasprices.aaa.com/2025/01/ the national gas price average was $3.10 or so at the end of January 2025. I could buy at the same price today. But I need to buy tomorrow. My last few fill ups were $2.679.

It has to go up because the price of crude has been going up WTI Crude Oil Futures Contracts | Oilprice.com and there is a lag between buying the crude and delivering the finished product.

 

on my Prius, $3./gal. got me about 50 miles.
on my bolt, 10 kwh gets me about 50 miles at 40 cents/kwh = $4.00

 

Why would anyone in Texas have ever paid anything even remotely close to $6/gal, for any octane grade? Besides for bragging rights?

 

Only the simplest mine would deny that there is a place for other fuel sources besides running an ev. That's what was so ridiculous about Gavin Newsom trying to do away with diesels in California.

One would imagine the highest number of diesel pushers are registered as RVs in california. Never mind all the visitors that come to the state parks.
