A different option would be the AWD Camry. It has low ground clearance but the battery is in the cabin area.

Not to stir the pot, but just for the record my dad traded in the gen 5 Prius for a new Ford Maverick hybrid AWD. I have no idea. Here's how the conversation went before he bought the Gen 5.

    Him: "gen 5"
Me: I don't know anything about them
Him: I heard they messed up and tried to make it appeal to too many people
Me: Yeah I heard bad things too, why on earth would you want to buy one?
    Him: I'm gonna buy one
Me: What? No. Buy a gen 2

Do they still make the Gen 2?

The Ford Maverick pickup truck is a little different vehicle from the Prius compact hatchback.

I was considering trying a Maverick Hybrid out until I learned they have the same tow rating as a Prius at 0 lbs

    Yeeeeah.
    That's a thing.
Blame the EPA and the climate industrial complex.

The Maverick DOES have a 4000# tow rating when properly equipped, and its direct competitor the Hyundai Santa Fe has a 5,000# rating.
They're actually very handy as....trucks if not very big or brawny.
If you need to haul something bulky - or something you really do not want to put into the inside of a carpeted automobile they are just as handy as a real pickup truck without the $50,000 price tag and 20MPG fuel rating.
Some people compare them with a Honda Ridgeline, which also has a 5,000# tow rating but that "car cosplaying as a truck" is considered to be a 'mid-size' truck by the people who decide these things.
Rivian has a unibody truck but it's also a mid-size, IIRC and it's another "affordable" $80,000 BEV.

    Meanwhile?
People who have to haul things are stuck with or blessed by full sized trucks as their main tow/haul option.

You heard wrong. When released, the hybrid had a lower rating than the ICE model, but was still at least 1000 pounds. Now the hybrid can be equipped to provide a 2000 pound rating.

Even "full sized" trucks are hard to find with an 8' bed these days. I'd want to pull a small trailer with an 8x12 bed for things like drywall and plywood.

I'll be interested in seeing what that Slate EV PU will be capable of and how much they cost if and when they finally sell them. Might be a good replacement for my UTV.

I'll be driving my 'retirement' Jeep by then....and by the time Slate builds out a dealership network, and parts infrastructure and THEN get to the point where Tesla is now the state (or more probably, my insurance company) will not let me drive.
    Don't get me wrong.
The napkin drawings look good in a Kei sort of way but IF they make it to market they're still going to be a $30,000 subcompact truck with crank windows, no infotainment system, a 1000# towing limit, and an interior that would make a 1982 Dodge Ram 50 seem over-styled and lavishly appointed.......AND they will have all of the disadvantages of a 150-mile BEV without all of the George Jetson inspired so-called benefits.

A guy down the block is a professional carpenter, has had a Ford Transit (250?) for some time. Then about a year back he acquired a Honda Japanoid utility vehicle, an ACTY if I’m not mistaken. He seems to like it, see him frequently tooling around in it.
