I think you agree with Bisco. Fuel costs are cheap compared to things like insurance costs. I pay more for insurance than for fuel, and I drive a lot.

Sorry for your sticker shock. I know I'm not upgrading my car for the forseeable future with current prices.

Yep; a new financed car will require FULL coverage insurance. I don't carry collision or comprehensive insurance, two of the most costly and just take it on the chin if something happens. If it's my fault, insurance will pay the other party and I "eat" my end. If it's their fault; they pay me. I had to put a guy on a repayment plan once - claimed he didn't have insurance, but drove for a living. It took a few years, but I was eventually made whole again, plus 10% interest.
This says something for driving old reliable, but NOT flashy cars.....

It's funny to watch how one's political and geological differences play out on forums. I currently own and daily drive 2 Toyota hybrids...including a Prius (my second one FTR)...and some how posting on Priuschat still makes me the enemy of the Left's group think. Still waiting to break bread Bob. A few others in here...I wouldn't waste my time.

I own & drive 2 Toyotas but only 1 is a hybrid. I replaced my totaled 2017 Prius with a 2025 Camry. I still drive my 2000 Tundra pickup, purchased new in early 2000.I drive very little, being retired.

I had a good day too:

Me too. Running over 4 miles/kWh, or about 5,000 kWh per year or roughly $600 each year if bought from the utility company. A little more out of town.

No, you're right. And I probably put too much emotion and bias into my posts. I'm sure you've contributed a lot.

But on the other hand, there are things I just don't understand.
    • @bwilson4web can afford a Tesla Model 3, but he can't afford to pay for gasoline.
    • @frodoz737 chose a Corvette that needs premium octane but openly dislikes expensive gasoline.
    • Yet if I mention that I've been working two jobs, 60 to 80 hours a week for the past year, yet can't afford a house, new car or health insurance, I'm told I'm lazy and just need to work more so I can pay more.
For the record I'm not in the Left group, nor am I in the Right group either.

And I own a three row, body-on-frame SUV with some 230,000 miles on it and a Prius I've owned for 5 years but never got running.

Bought 7 years ago, $24,000 with Prius Prime trade-(in and after 175,000 miles. Today, Edmunds claims it is only worth $5,000.

    IT IS NOT FOR SALE!

Found a YouTube channel that is anti-EV:

e ignores EV advantages and real life, operational scenarios. For example, what is any car doing while you are doing anything else?

The EV mantra is ABC (Always Be Charging.) You learn how to multiplex charging with your ordinary, biological, work, and play. If you can’t multiplex, EVs are not for you. Your kids, yes, but not for inflexible thinkers racing to the grave.

Like the new attractive Prius prime (decent EV range - yet a bit too smallish egresswise) there are 2019 Chevy volts out there, under 30k miles, for under $18K. Probably similar deals with the Hyundai/ionic families.
Point being, there are reasonably priced used PHEVs that can run for 95% of automobile's EV usage, & the other 5% for those handful of Road Warriors who can't stand the thought of charging for 18 minutes & thus need to sprint back to the car after they're done peeing.
Loved our SoCal solar. Loved our Tesla's. Loved our different PHEV's.
We worked to the point both of us have had health issues (better ½ still does) so that we could have 'stuff'.
Haters might show disdain for our electric drives & PV solar, while other haters may show disdain while driving the ¾ton diesel pickup.
    Like Jesus said (Mathew 11:18-19) tho;
"John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of Man came eating & drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and (other) sinners"
People will criticize no matter what

I'll have to put that car on my list of potential next cars. @bwilson4web also mentioned the BMW i3 REx. Those are close to the mileage and price my Avalon was when I bought it. Although, according to Dave Ramsey, I shouldn't be buying a car over $5,000. Then again, I don't know why I fret over these things when the cars I have now work, and I don't even really need more than one car.
