Smog test revealed last week that the bleeder valve on the engine water pump is leaking coolant. The shop wants to do pump and hoses. AI is telling me to get this list of parts which i quoted at local dealership.
    • Engine Water Pump (with gasket) – 107
    • Thermostat (with gasket/seal) – 54 gasket 16
    • Upper & Lower Radiator Hoses – 82 and 56
    • Serpentine Belt – S - 32
    • 3-Way Coolant Control Valve (highly recommended for Gen 2 at 160k) w/ Hoses -208
    • Radiator Cap - 36
    • 2 Gallons of Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (Pink, Premixed 50/50) – 30/gal
As for the 3 way coolant control valve. I am getting a clicking noise under dash periodically ai told me to turn on heat full blast for 5 minutes. This will alleviate noise but it will come back. AI also says this part is the culprit.

Because I live in an apartment the coolant dump is difficult and will have to utilize a garage I am considering having it all done. The entire job is getting expensive 650 parts and 200 to 400 labor. Please critic this plan and if I should get all this done. TY for your time.

Water pump is a mechanical water pump that has been used for many years very quick change in apartment lot . Just drain off about quart of coolant that should be nuff to remove pump only leave hose on . Swap pump n gaskets about 35 minutes basic tools . At this age
Mileage hoses should be nice still unless in some weather extreme . Coolant control meh clicking maybe the controlotors on HVAC box next to gas pedal foot

Upon discussing this with ai the plan makes sense. i forgo the hoses to make it less messy so i can diy. AI did get the cost down on oem by going with a aisin water pump for 70. AI still thinks its 3 way valve. Here is the explanation.

    "How to tell the difference:
    * 3-Way Valve: Usually clicks or makes a "hunting" noise shortly after the car is turned off or right when it’s started, as it tries to move coolant to/from the heat storage tank. It often triggers a P1121 check engine code. (code hasn't happened yet). HVAC Actuators: These click when you change the temperature settings or air direction while the car is running."

From this description it sounds like 3 way valve to me. This clicking can get load and annoying so I would like to replace, AI found the part at a NC dealership for 100. The strategy would be the same forgo hose replacement clamp them down instead.

This brings repair to sub 200 I could deal with hoses and thermostat at later date if necessary.

I got to update. This apartment I am in its against the lease I just read it. All DIY garages are gone here in Las Vegas. I am not sure what options I even have. I guess to get out of that crazy repair i take it to a budget shop with my own parts tell them to replace the engine water pump and the 3 way valve to bleed and top off the fluid? IDK they got us against the odds with this rent culture and no DIY bays to rent.
