This car I just got running again after replacing the brakes - according to TorquePro, the coolant temp runs 186-188. I've always seen my other cars at 182. I did see there was no coolant in the overflow bottle, but the radiator was full when I checked it the other day. So, I've filled up the bottle and will check again. Does that sound abnormal? Maybe need a thermostat - although this one is obviously working? It did sit for several years.

That 186-188 is about the range my '02 runs at; sometimes warmer even. Depends a lot on outside temp and how driven (e.g., steady uphill will "elevate" temp also!).

great to hear. I don't usually monitor temps so don't have a great baseline to go by. I did see this car at 192 a couple of times, but only briefly, after just starting up, like maybe the thermostat was not opening until then, Once I started driving and looked back again to check, it was around 186. And I did accelerate sharply a couple of times and it never went past the 188. So, I guess I'm OK. Thx.

I've got a ScanGaugeII hooked up so I can monitor basics like coolant temp, 12V voltage, rpm, mpg, etc. It's right in front of my face on the steering column, so I'm aware of those four parameters all the time. It also scans for codes and does other useful stuff.

Yes, I had a ScanGauge for years but it got stolen. Switched to TorquePro and use it constantly with my diesel trucks as you describe, but never felt the need so much with my Prii as I'm never putting them under stress like I do my trucks. Also, I've never gotten it to read much data. Downloaded the Toyota PID set but few seem to work and nothing of value with the battery or inverter pump. Ditto with Dr. Prius - doesn't seem to work on Gen1 batteries.
