So on my Mitsubishi Outlander, I wasn't driving, someone else was, and the serpentine belt broke, causing the car to overheat. I repalced the serpentine belt, I replaced the spark plugs (which were due for replacement anyways), and I charged the battery and put a little jump start battery box onto it as well on boost mode, but this is all I get. The serpentine belt moves which means the engine pistons are still turning. Anyone able to tell me just from the noise maybe if they know what might be wrong? When the incident happened I figured the car was toast because maybe the engine seized but it turned with a wrench and the starter appears to turn the belt. I have been trying a last ditch effort to fix it before having it towed off. Here's a 7 second video I uploaded to youtube showing the new serpentine moving and the noise it makes when I try to start it: Outlander won't start after serpentine belt broke and car overheated
The car overheated on the road, red lights, etc, went off, and then the engine stopped all by itself, steam coming out from under the hood, and you had it towed back to your place? Does it turn all the way around with the wrench, maybe two times? Nothing stupid, like forgetting to put the wires back on the plugs, fully? The engine needs fuel and spark to run, plus it has to turn around, lol. That's all I got, I know it ain't much.
The dash board should've lit up like a Christmas tree when the belt snapped; but I guess you decided to keep driving until it overheated and shut-down. At least the battery/alternator lamp would've lit up too. You need to do a compression test to see where the engine is or if it's even salvageable. It's back to basics; test for spark compression and fuel. If you don't understand this or it confuses you, just scrap it or take it to a professional for diagnostic and/or repair. Good Luck......
