Prefer full sale but I would consider parting out... The car is not drivable. No air bag were deployed. The radiator is bused or so I assume from red liquid at the scene; as is the engine air filter box. Not totally sure what else is damaged. The car will power on and can be put into neutral. Not a mechanic so I couldn't really tell you what else is wrong. But if you ask and tell me what to look for or want photos -- that I can do. I've attached some photos here. Blizzard White. Repainted with in last 1-2 years by Toyota due to peeling paint. ~150k. No issues prior to accident. Located in Lake Mary, FL (32746). We didn't have comprehensive or collision on this vehicle, so it's all on us. CarMax offered us $1600 via the online quote, but they can change that once we get the car on lot.... If interested: A Camry changing lanes in heavy traffic side swiped the Prius, into a guard rail which made the car spin 90 degrees front bumper into the guard rail then, another 90 degrees, across 3 lanes into the other guard rail. My son, who was driving, is fine. The other driver left the scene but a witness followed him and got the license plate. The deputy spoke with him at his home and cited him for careless driving and driving without insurance. After much calling (and talking to supervisors (?)), the deputy added hit-and-run but not reckless driving (note: reckless driving very different than careless driving ). The deputy also did not cite him for driving with a suspended license which had been suspended for at least a year. The deputy also did not send the case to to be prosecuted. Again, after much calling they are sending the case to the FL ADA. The person has at least 2 traffic citation every year for the last 5 years in a single county.
Well, apparently the deputy is new. And maybe got a sob story? I'm not sure the reason(s). It seems to me that the deputy implied that he went easy because the driver admitted to being the driver did not stop to exchange information was 'road' raging with another driver/car So the only citation that was given was careless driving and driving without insurance.... I want to say that the the "first" completed report, didn't even indicate the driver was at fault, but I'd have to back and check the first report to be sure. My view, if this was his first or second offense, sure, I can see letting him "easy" with some stiff fines but with these points: 10 citations over 5 years (which he was caught and issued citations...) driving without insurance driving with a 1+ year suspended license and "still" making unsafe lane changes in heavy traffic IMHO, those points seems to indicate to reckless behavior. The driver really needs a reality check with something more than a stiff fine (a reckless driving citation - would make him go to court and the judge would make him take various driving courses). I'd like him off the same roads that I'm, my son, or really ... anyone is driving on until he learns safe driving. Right now, he's also a danger to himself too. The reason the deputy said not reckless driving; "normally direct observed behavior by officers." -- There was a chief of fire station as a witness...; okay not deputy... still... The reason the deputy said not hit-n-run; "maybe he didn't know that he hit another car." -- The witness said that when he caught up to the driver and was taking a picture of the car/license, the witness saw this and accelerated away. So... yeah.
Those damaged body parts cost a lot just to replace even for a Gen2 or 3 and even without any structural damage to the places they those parts attach to, if there are some. The hopefully good news is the hatch and rear bumper evaded damage and the interior looks very good for anyone that might need them. Sad, I can only imagine ! Nice, low mile Gen 2 and 3 are hard to come by these days. Good to hear your son survived the attack from another iggit on the road, if that is what it was.
‘Red fluid’ is most likely ATF, so possible transaxle compromise. No multi-time loser provisions in Florida VTL?
