Which dash cam do you have and can I use any ODB for parking mode? Also, my AC is no longer blowing

That is too involved for me and I don't want to pay someone to install it.

For you it isn't but that goes beyond my skills.

Huh? Wires hanging down? I will tie them up and away. Again, going into the fusebox is too difficult for me. I am not even looking forward to running the wire behind the car panels. OBD 2 is just plug in and go. Simple.

Yes I do but installation videos I have watched are way more involved than that. Maybe you are confused. OBD 2 is just plug in and that's it. Hardwiring to fuse box involves way more work and 3 different cables. Here is a video about the OBD 2

T tap. Into that . Now put ground lead of test light on that hot wire and find a ground usually white wire blk line t tap the blk into that . Swing up console .look at yer cam ... Red light etc .

My only confusion is why you want to risk issue with the obd port.
    Your car....

What issues? I have read plenty of articles that state they are safe and to just make sure you set it up to make sure it doesn't draw more power than the battery needs.

I decided to get the Rove R2 4k dual dash cam and the Cerrxian OBD power adapter. Will it work? Is it compatible? I have no idea. There is so little info out there but from what I can gather, it's a USB C adapter so it will work with USB C dash cams for parking mode. It seems like most people only have a front cam plugged in the cig port. I wish there was a way to find out if this setup works but I guess it's just something I will have to find out for myself.

My question would be how can it not work . You're electing to plug up instead of wire up simple. All OBD2 ports should be same pin out it's a standard .

For parking mode, I have read that it does and read that it doesn't. I know it will power the dash cam but parking mode is what I am wanting and that's what I can't quite figure out.

If the documentation on the product isn't clear, you probably shouldn't buy it.
In my experience; it's like a stereo install. A battery power wire (always-ON), an accessory wire (only ON when car is running), and a ground. That's the only way the unit will know when to go into parking mode. I've seen a lot of, not so bright installers, simply tie those two wires together, not realizing the problem they've just created.

    YMMV

If you can't do something as simple as connect a wire to another wire behind a dash I suspect you probably don't know how to tie your own shoes either and you still live with your mother so she can do it for you still right?

I'm out... I have zero patience for people who are this lazy and closed minded... This is a forum to help people work on their Prius not for people who don't know how. I'm embarrassed for you!

If you don't have it the plug up to find out then you're just breathing smoke up your own you know what so there you go if it has power why wouldn't it go into the mode ya want . Maybe you select it fore ya get out

How mature of you. I live alone and function just fine. Have you ever installed a dash cam hardwire kit to the fuse box to enable parking mode? It's not as simple as just connecting a wire to another wire. I literally need a video of someone with a gen 3 prius showing me EXACTLY which fuses to plug into and EXACTLY where to put the ground. I could really screw up the car if I mess up.

If you haven't, have you watched any videos? I have watched 3 different videos and am I not comfortable doing it. If you have indeed installed a hardwire kit to the fuse box to enable your dash cam parking mode, good for you. I am not even comfortable trying it. I am sure there are things in life others think are easy and you can't do or aren't comfortable doing. It's just putting a ball in a hoop. Why aren't you in the NBA? It's just hitting a ball with a bat, why aren't you in MLB? It's just throwing a ball and catching it. Why aren't you in the NFL?

Another user here posted that is was really easy to clean the HV battery fan. I watched a video and it involved me needing a bunch of tools I didn't have and removing the entire back part of the car. We clearly have different definitions of easy.

This forum is to help people yes but if it's something the person can't do or isn't comfortable doing, the fact you are getting offended and name calling means you clearly have personal issues you need to work through. If you are so high and mighty, why are you even posting on a message board in the first place?

You want to be careful with parking mode. It’ll chew down the battery really quickly.

If your uncomfortable doing this; how do you know the video your watching is accurate? You know people can edit video and coverup mistakes and just say it works. That's the magic of video and movies. If you don't know how to test to see if your doing something correctly - You should probably pay someone. If you pay someone and they fry your electrical system, they're responsible. If you fry it, your paying for the repair.

    Just saying..... Good Luck....

Yes exactly. That's what I am trying to get across. I need a step by step video in a 3rd Gen prius to show me exactly what to do in detail. I have decided to just use a power/battery bank for parking mode. There just isn't enough concrete info on the OBD 2 and I don't want to pay someone to hardwire it so the battery bank is the easiest option for now.

Sounds perfect for you that's exactly what you need sheetz run n done. Now you're 12 volt in your car will stay as stable as it can because you're not sucking it with the camera or anything else . I mean you're in a gen 3 you should be headed to massive amounts of problems in the camera won't be one of them believe me

    Nothing's easy.

How are you going to change the battery bank? At home?
Then you have to bring it with you.
Unless you think you can plug the camera into it and then the bank into the cigarette lighter while you drive.
I tried that-you need to make sure the power bank you have can do that-the couple that I tried didn't allow that.
I suppose you could try plugging the power bank into the cigarette lighter, or suitable outlet, and charge it separately while you drive, then plug in the dashcam when you park if the battery is charged up enough.

I started a whole stupid thread on it myself lately.

You have to think of what you're actually trying to accomplish, monitoring your 10 year old car while it's parked.
Maybe it's worth the hassle. Maybe not.

edit: Now that I write about it, maybe I'll try it myself, lol. For laughs, and to see how the various parking modes work, energy consumption, etc. I'm sure the novelty will wear off quickly. Plus I have two cams. lol.
