I own a 2018 Prius Prime. Love my car, I've had very few issues with it. Though when traveling I've wished my GPS was more up to date. I've ordered an SD card from Amazon that was supposed to have updated maps but it didn't work. I have the 11.6 Infotainment unit. Is there a different SD card I need to order?
Install an aftermarket SD card from Amazon? What could possibly go wrong with THAT? The latest map data for a 2018 Toyota Prius Prime is available via a Micro SD card update, with the most current versions being 86271-0E077 (2025 release) The 2018 Toyota Prius Prime (including the Advanced trim with the 11.6-inch screen) does not feature native Apple CarPlay or whatever the Droid people use. In order to be able to use the phone that you already pay for, you must install an aftermarket module, such as those from NAViKS, CarABC, or Dasaita, which provides wired/wireless connectivity. These interfaces typically connect via USB and allow control through the stock touchscreen and steering wheel buttons. They're usually around $500 I do not have any direct experience with these products but they represent a "buy once, cry once" solution rather than paying some janky company money for YOU to install something into your car that you *hope* doesn't contain malware or noware. You can also try Crutchfield. Crutchfield CLAIMS TO offer compatible aftermarket head units for the 2018 Toyota Prius Prime, including dash kits to replace the factory unit. HOWEVER (comma!) Toyota may be lacking in corporate morals but they are not stupid. It may be easier to remove Borg implants than it is to put a compatible aftermarket head unit into an "advanced" car. You may be better off just paying the mothership for THEIR already outdated GPS data. Good Luck!
I've always liked Garmin's. Still do. Thinking of sticking it on the little front window. Or, at least have it in the car in case of no cell signal.
They're good for what they do, but Garmin represents a single-tasker screen and for the same hardware price as their larger units, I can use my Starlink Mini with my already paid-for Roam plan. I respect Garmins for what they are and what they can do, but they're the Eastman Kodak of the 21st century. I keep my SL hull mounted at home in $5 "standby" mode as a fall-over home data and to run my security system and a camera or two. I have it mounted in such a way as to be very easily removed and (because it's a mini) I can take it with me on the road if I wish to do so, and although I have not tried this (because......I have a PHONE) I'm told that a Starlink Roam plan in a $5/mo Standby Mode (500kb/s) can generally be used for GPS-dependent apps (like traffic, maps and navigation) while traveling in no-cell service areas. Note: Garmin does not require a subscription for their "core" GPS services, and their smaller models are around $100. If GPS is a need, this represents a "good nuff" and always available solution. Elon-net will "probably" want me to buy a month of Roam data from time to time - although they have not hassled me about it in the last 4 months. My original advice stands for Prius Entune victims. I would (in ranked order) 1. Get an aftermarket unit to integrate my phone with the OEM infotainment system. 2. Pay the shakedown money and update the GPS with a STOCK OEM update. 3. Replace the head unit - or the car. I bought a 2023 GMC with no factory ON* and (as far as I can tell) No IMEI number. THAT wasn't on my Bingo card, it was just a pleasant surprise. PHYSICAL HVAC controls were on my 'must have' list.
