Since I've been checking this forum for the last 2 weeks trying to figure out if I was going to get the HOV stickers are not and getting hopeful or depressed depending on what the latest post said, I thought I'd share my timeline.

1/18 Purchased Pkg 2 Prius from Walnut Creek Toyota

1/19 12:30PM Got email saying my plates were ready! Big surprise because the sales person had said that their online system would let me get the plates in about a week to 10 days. Drove over to pick them up.

1/19 2:30PM Picked up Fast Trak transponder from San Francisco office.

1/19 4:30PM Dropped off the application at the post office. Just used regular mail since the next day was Saturday and I figured it would get there on Monday either way.

    1/30 Check cashed!

    2/2 Stickers arrive! 91xxx. Issued 2/1/07

Best of luck to those of you still waiting

The key date is 1/25/07. If the DMV received your COMPLETED application on that date, then in all likelyhood, your appication was accepted.

If you got your application in on 1/26/07, then you might have got one of the last 50 or so they issued that day - DMV gets about 100 to 200 apps per day. All checks from accepted applications were deposited by the end of the day 1/26/07.

On 1/27/07 or after, DMV said all applications received will be issued rejection letters.

man, all this reading is getting me scared. I'm getting mixed answers from people at DMV.. they give me different answers when I ask them.

My check was cashed along with some of you.. I really hope we all get the stickers!!

    I'm praying!! :)

Homer, I'll bet almost anything that you get your stickers (probably in tomorrow's mail)! Your's are the posts that I most identified with since our timelines were so close. I too called the DMV after my check cleared to see if they could verify that I would be getting the stickers. Even though I gave the DMV lady my plate number, she still couldn't couldn't say absolutely that I'd made the cutoff and said that I would have to wait 2-4 weeks to see if I got them. Two days latter, they arrived! I'd say that the fact that our checks cleared on the same day means you'll be getting yours too.

Thanks for the hopeful encouragement Jimm!! I just noticed that our situations are pretty similar!! I hope the stickers come soon!! Can't justify driving in traffic to work everyday anymore hahahaha :p

By the way, how big was the envelope the stickers came in ? :)

Oh one more question for ya Jimm.

I might be relocating up north. I might be moving to Emryville and working in downtown S.F. I have been hearing everyone talk about the Fast Trak transponder. What is that transponder? How does it work? I have to drive on the bridge to S.F. probably 5 times a week for work, so is the transponder for the toll?

    thanks :)

The certificate and stickers came in an official looking 9"x6" windowed envelope with the name and address from the certificate showing in the window.

The Fast Trak transponder is for all the bridges in the Bay Area and yes, it's to pay the tolls. It's a small box that electronically pays the toll charge. I just take it out of the center counsel and place it on the dash when I need it. All the bridge tolls are $4.00 since the beginning of the year. My understanding is that those of us who live in this area have to have a transponder before we can apply for the HOV stickers because with these sticker we can use the car pool lanes on the bridges but unless we have 3 or more in the car, we still have to pay the toll and since there are no toll takers in the car pool lanes, the only way to pay is with the transponder. If you're going to be crossing the bridge a lot, you'll want a transponder anyway. I probably only cross the bridge once a month but I still got one even before I bought the Prius just for the convenience.

Looking forward to your post tomorrow saying that you got your stickers!

Hey all! Keep your spirits up! My check cashed on 1/31 and I got my stickers today. I live about 15 miles north-east of Sacramento so I'm sure my stickers came really quick just because of the short mailing distance. All the DMV folks I talked to during this process said that if your check was cashed... you will get stickers. My sticker numbers are 857##. I hope you all get them! :)

The article is confusing -- it states that CNG vehicles also are not getting stickers, which I thought came out of a different pool. Also, the sticker they show is white (electric, CNG, not Hybrid) which seems inaccurate.

This is Ron Lin, a reporter with the LA Times. I wanted to see if I could interview you ASAP for a story about the CA DMV running out of carpool lane stickers for hybrids. Please e-mail me at [email protected]. Feel free to pass this on to folks who wanted to apply for a sticker and either just received their carpool stickers, still are waiting, just bought a hybrid but haven't applied yet, or were thinking about buying one.

Cool. Thanks for the post. My check cleared on 1/30 too so I'm hoping that I get lucky and get stickers instead of a rejection letter.

    Good luck to everyone!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is in today's LA Times, no more stickers.

    Stickerless drivers stuck
To prevent clogged lanes, the state is not issuing any more permits allowing hybrid car owners to drive solo in carpool lanes.
    By Rong-Gong Lin II
    Times Staff Writer

    February 5, 2007

Rushing to beat an impending state cap on permits that allow the drivers of hybrid cars to drive solo in carpool lanes, William Ha sent in his paperwork soon after purchasing his Toyota Prius last month.

    But he was too late.

So many people had applied for the permits that officials ran out before they received Ha's.

"It was heartbreaking," said the 24-year-old financial analyst, who commutes from Fountain Valley to downtown Los Angeles each weekday. "I heard they were running out, and I wanted to purchase it as soon as possible so I could get the stickers."

Ouch, I feel bad for that William Ha guy, too, especially if he just dropped $25,000+ on a Prius solely for the HOV stickers.

I could imagine some new Prius owners fuming over having been mislead by the car salespeople ("oh, yeah, DMV just got another 10,000 stickers and they'll last well through May, etc."). It'll be interesting to see how many try to take their hybrids back...
