Is there any way to confirm whether an HV battery is good in a no-start Gen1? A G1 has shown up in the local pick-u-part. It doesn't appear to have any issues except a missing cat. Of course, it almost certainly won't turn on, probably doesn't even have the key.

Any way to confirm short of removing and checking voltage on every module? Seems like I've asked this before, but forget the answers, or whether I even got any.

I'm not sure even doing that would tell you much of what you'd like to know. You'd be measuring static voltages on a bunch of modules that have been sitting there for however long....

You'd be essentially buying a pig in a poke, if you worked out a price where you'd be comfortable with that.

The last few I walked up to had tested like 195 V. But conditions of bus bars and nuts was poor I did not try to drop that in a vehicle and make it start. I just brought the assembly home and still sitting w that 193 in it now .

Thanks, guys. Turns out the car didn't have the battery in it. Couldn't tell from the pics and they include HV batteries in their standard price list, so I assumed it might still be in the car, or more likely, that they'd removed it and had it available (couldn't imagine they let customers remove the battery). Apparently, they sell most of these to a third-party rebuilder.

But yeah, buying a used battery is pretty dicey. This PuP yard (LKQ PuP) sells batteries (ones they don't sell to 3rd party) for $432 + $50 core, but that comes with no warranty. You can buy a 90-day warranty for $150 and if the battery is bad you get all your money back, so realistically, they sell batteries for $582. Of course, this current G1 is the first one of those I've seen at any of their Texas yards in a couple of years. Maybe have more G2s.
