Greetings folks, New here posting but have spent hours reading. 2012 Prius 2 was heating up on hills 155k from info here replaced engine water pump (Aisin part) easy fix. Traction light has been on solid no codes set I can see with a Scan Gauge 2. Would like to see wheel speed sensors and any faults the SG can't see. Ordered the BT adapter recommended by DrPrius for Android tablet. The software is confusing me a bit as DP seems to be about HV battery health and I am looking for data from controllers that effect the traction control system. I don't think the regen is working but read that system is disabled when the TCS light is set. I will be doing brakes and control arms soon and would like to take care of wheel sensors then if needed. A couple hundred for software would be fine.......Thanks Dave
I recommend the Autel AP200. It costs about $60 on Amazon. It is an OBD2 Bluetooth dongle that works with a Autel app on your phone or tablet. Read post #1 and then scroll down to post #37 in this thread, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3246758 Also, look at this thread for the Autel AP200, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3248209
I did a lot of reading when one of my daughters cars sensor was acting up -- the codes may often show as "dirty sensor" or something like that, BUT generally, it seems to mean that the wheel bearings are going out. And go out they do, especially after 10 years and 150k miles. On the 2011, and 2014 Prius in my family, 3 of 4 rear WB and 2 of 4 front have died. All in the 140-160k range. In short, even if the code says sensor problem, there is an excellent chance the sensor is dirty because of internal problems. Or so was my experience. Your first post seems pretty correct in my limited experience. Good luck and welcome to the forum.....
Thank you very helpful Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts on this. I like to watch Carcarenut because diagnosis is key to his advice, but he mentions experience as also something to be considered. I will consider wheel bearings along with other things on the list
I have the topdon artidiag 600 S and it can read a bunch of systems on the vehicle, check it out for yourself on Amazon. so far I’ve used it to replace my TPMS sensors and read my inverter codes that failed on me and I got it replaced for free by the dealership because of the codes I pulled up. I’m about to use it for the brake actuator when it fails too. TOPDON ArtiDiag 600 S Scan Tool unboxing and review.
yes that looks functionally like what I need. The Forescan program for late model Fords on my laptop has that functionality and a 17 inch screen for old eyes........would love to find that for Toyota. Thanks everyone for taking the time to show me options.....Dave
I have been considering the xtool D7 over $300 and just looked at the xtool anyscan a30m for half the price and you can use your android tablet....great reviews on Amazon. Anyone try it on their prius? Almost clicked buy but need to check android version when I get home thanks Dave
Check this app review, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3290690 This is the same app review thread (post #37) that I linked in post #2.
The D8 is an updated version of the D7. And has more features, worth the extra money. There is also a D9. You can NOT trust reviews from amazon. They got caught several years ago for fake reviews. Over 80% I think it was. And you can't really trust any reviews any longer.
