Continuous battery charging!

    this is my 1st post although have lurking for several years. My question is regarding my old 2004 that was constantly charging the battery, even up hills. The battery was topped out for the last 3-4 weeks when usually had maybe one green "space" open. It has been very cold here in Missouri...part of the problem? I traded it for a 2007 Barc. Red pkg 6 for 27,300 (sticker 29,442) and the dealer gave me $15,500 for my trade. I am still kind of worried about my old car...any thoughts??? Thanks

    Quite normal...the ICE runs more in cold weather to keep itself warm...the extra power produced needs to go somewhere so it's dumped into the battery. Also, the cold battery can't take a charge in quite the same way a warm one does...some of us think that's a significant part of the reason we see that.

    It's not a problem.

    Hey, most people don't know what a CRNA is so that's great to hear! What do you think of my trade-in value? I was disappointed. It had around 40,000 miles. I guess 27,000 for my new one is better than paying sticker but I wish the Prius was less expensive to buy... Usually I just get in and drive but this time I'm going to concentrate on better gas mileage and use tips off this site. Thanks for the nice welcome!

    I wouldn't be dissapointed in your trade in value. Kelly blue book says my trade in value for an 05 is $15k and that's what my dealer offered me on a trade.

    I wouldn't be able to comment on the trade-in without consulting the blue book. But it looks like paprius4030 has done that for you.

    As you presumably have already figured out, you'll get a lot of tips on this site, though they're sometimes hard to find given the sheer size of the archives. I suggest you spend some time (and exercise patience) and search using an assortment of what you think might be relevant search criteria.

    It's not hybrid-specific, though many Prius owners (me among them) hang there. If you want a lot of information on "hypermiling" and not have to hunt around too much for it, take a look.
