Hello I see a lot of threads about the uncomfortable seats in the Gen 3 Prius, but haven't found a thread that is decisive regarding fitment. I have 2015 Prius Two with mechanical adjustments. I believe all seats have airbags? I don't care about cloth/vinyl and am looking for OEM or aftermarket seats that will improve comfort. I don't mind using brackets or transferring my airbag but would prefer to avoid setting codes or having my airbag light on. Has anyone had success with aftermarkets or is there a bolt-in seat from other Toyota models? I see that Lexus CT200H seats would fit, but they're all powered. Adding wiring seems like a headache. Thanks!
My sympathies! Seats of the Prius Two have the same fault as did those of my earlier, cheaper, smaller Japanese cars----the saggy middle of the backrest provides insufficient lumbar support. I fixed that deficiency in the older, pre-airbag seats by taking the backrest apart and adding steel reinforcing straps and hardboard between the straps and the existing zig-zag springs. .I haven't done the same to the Prius because I'm intimidated by the air bags. Let us know what you work out.
That's a great idea! I wouldn't have thought of modifying the existing seat to be more comfortable. I thought my springs were sagging after 200k+ miles, but the more I read, I realize it was probably bad just coming off the assembly line. I have reupholstered a couple of seats, and the foam was available in junkyards. Also pulled the airbag from an old seat and installed into a newer one. Usually it's just 2x 10mm bolts after you undo some Velcro on the seat cover (possibly this is federally mandated as they all seem similar?) Obviously disconnect all voltage to the airbag. I've got a lead on some newer Camry seats that may bolt up. Will update the thread as I know more.
200H they should be the way to go if you can find them in good shape . Wiring would be minimal pick up a hot in the ground for each seat powered
OK but shouldn't those wires run to the fuse panel? Or maybe I can get away with an inline fuse? Also there are two electric motors I believe. Guessing they can draw up to 10A if my fat nice person is in the chair? Thanks
Did not think of it. Will check ASAP. In this case its plug and play? As long as there is no ECU communication for something like seat memory or whatever. Toyota doesn't seem to do coding for most parts, so that's no worry. Maybe I will look around in Techstream for seat options.
The wiring diagram is a better place.see what colors are used for at least driver power seat. By using diagram correctly you can narrow down very close to area you need be.
Some say that FRS seats bolt in after swapping the lower rails, but I haven't found anything conclusive on that
You mean Scion FR-S? EBay saying those seats also bolt into 2013-2020 Subaru BRZ. Will investigate further.
Update on this job, the 3rd Gen Prius seat brackets appear to be split into 2010-12 and 2013-15, and Lexus CT200h 2011-17 should be the same as 2013-15 Prius. Part numbers for the track are: Prius 2010-12 (71620-47060) Prius 2013-15 (71620-47161) Lexus CT200H 2011-17 (71620-76050) About to take the plunge and order CT200h seat. If I read correctly the drivers seat is always electric. My 2015 Prius manual seat has 2 connectors under the seat, one for the airbag and not sure about the other, perhaps seatbelt sensor? The CT200h seat electrical connector looks different than the Prius one. Might need to re-pin or run some wiring. Not looking forward to that
I agree....gosh, the seats in our old 2008 Corolla are much better than both our Prius (17/21). When my wife got her 24 Corolla Hybrid, her seats are even better than the old Corolla. Since my 21 Prius is my commuter, I did buy this nice pad that massages and heats up....did make the ride a bit better and nice when my herniated disks are acting up. (You do have to buy the plug-in 12-volt adapter for use in the car.) The link to Amazon doesn't work...it's called Snailax Back Massager with Heat, Memory Foam Chair Massage Pad, 5 Massage Modes & 2 Heat Settings, Seat Massager for Office Chair,Home Use
Here's a pic of underside of CT200h seat Found the Lexus CT200h wiring harness part number and diagram. Toyota (8219276020) Here's the diagram
"IF" the seats are the same, you could just change the cushions, right? Then you wouldn't have to "rewire" anything. Unless you just wanted those things...
