The touch screen in my wife's 2012 Prius has died (the digitizer) and my wife says either get her a screen with Android Auto, or a new car (yikes!). Her current radio is the one with navigation, but it's not the JBL radio. Can anyone suggest a drop-in replacement screen that has Android Auto? I see some Chinese looking things, but it would be nice to hear about one that is legit and actually works. This is what her current radio looks like:
Yes, but it's difficult to tell which are actually good ones, so I'm hoping someone here has tried one and can recommend a specific one.
Go to Crutchfield, they are several different models to choose from. Have your wife pick it, safer for you!
Soundstream vdddr6 or some funny number similar just put one in . It's not made like most . You should take a look . I was reasonably impressed . 150 bux
I do know that when you search online for sound systems that are compatible for your vehicle you get charged a way higher price. The trick is to find a dash kit for your car separate from the sound system you buy. Not only is it cheaper, but it doesn't limit what you can buy the way people who buy dash kit and sound system combined.
The SS is kinda cool has its own GPS antennae but yet needs you're apple or Android device. Why?.. I guess the phone can use that external antenna that's on SS for better reception ?.. it has to e alignment for speaker sound arriving at ears. Eq multiple outputs and inputs hi n lo etc . SS only has about 5 head units base on this model up to 10 inch screen . I used double din 7 in
I second the advice of going to Crutchfield. Just give your vehicle type (2012 Toyota Prius w/ Navigation) and Crutchfield will give you loads of options. Choose a name brand (i.e., Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony) and you should be fine. There are so many car stereo options that you'll need to decide for yourself so it's hard to give specific recommendations on which model you should purchase. For example, do you want physical volume knobs, Radio Data System (RDS), HD Radio Tuner, Android Auto wired/wireless, ...
What I'm struggling to understand is, the cheap Chinese units on Amazon claim to include everything and just plug in and work, some of them are under $200. But when I got to Crutchfield and pick a nice Pioneer that's $400, it needs another almost $400 in additional parts to be compatible with the Prius. I get that the Pioneer is surely a better unit, but an extra $400 for parts to make it compatible with the Prius is just a deal breaker. Has anyone done this before, and do you know if there are lesser expensive parts to make the Pioneer work with the Prius?
OK new idea. It looks like the options are (a) drop $800, or (b) fix the stock digitizer for $30 and just but a separate tablet with Android Auto and a little stand and mount it on the dash above everything else. This is starting to look like the way to go. Has anyone does this and do you have any suggestions for a stand?
Depends on how many times you want to buy that cheap chinese radio.... You could always buy a different brand, that is less cost.
Have you seen the latest and greatest supposedly Apple Android audio blah blah blah thing it stands on its own on dash it's 200 but you can control multi different ways etc . It's all over the net rt now . My buddy got one didn't have to do anything . Mount sticks on dash . Drop unit on .
This sounds like the alternative idea that I'm thinking about. Would you mind asking your buddy what brand/model he got and how he likes it?
