I have a 2012 Prius, and yesterday my multi function display malfunctioned. The video disappeared, and bluetooth stopped working, but it continually plays a CD. I can also use the buttons to change the tracks on the CD, but I can't use the display to switch the audio input to the radio. When I back up, the backup camera video flashes briefly and then disappears. Occasionally, the Toyota logo would appear on the screen and say it was trying to connect to bluetooth (which never worked) and then would go blank again. Has anyone else experienced this? I asked an AI chatbot, and it suggested checking the 12V battery and the driver's side fuse box before replacing the head unit. Does this make sense in light of the odd behavior (i.e. the CD player works fine)? thanks for your advice
Easiest fix is to swap screen out with a screen from a wrecked 2012 that you buy online or local wrecking yard, probably less than a $100. Of course first step you need to examine is wiring and plugs to make sure nothing is loose or there isn't a problem beyond the screen. Alternatively, you could take it to your local Toyota stealership and have them rob you for $3K to $4K for a brand new everything they can think of to "fix it."
