An increasingly common egr valve problem is a valve that sticks open when it should be closed. This can causes stumbling and stalls.

Blocking the egr is diagnostic of a sticking valve and is better than only disconnecting the connector.

My understanding is that if the connector is unplugged, engine management programming recognizes that and adjusts timing or other variables to minimize risk of knock that EGR normally supresses.

The fact this guy bring this same point up for probably half a decade now is wild after all the positive experience we've had with the egr delete and egr cleaning. Master gaslighter. Even has a low mileage gen 3 prius so no experience with these issues. Clearly the cars are blowing head gaskets on cylinders 1 and 2 every time, and those are the egr circuits which clog first. Having an unbalanced intake charge is no bueno. Leads to misfires very quickly on these engines. And the car can't correct as its clear the knock sensors don't pick it up and neither does the upstream oxygen sensor.

One other wild stat is i remember the winter cold starts where the car would suck up water vapor from the pcv and knock on cold winter mornings for a couple seconds before it cleared out every blue moon. It never once threw a check engine light for a knock/misfire. lol

Keep doing the EGR unplug boys, just make it ready to go in case of emissions.
