My c recently keeps getting stuck in Park and I cannot shift to Drive unless I manually press the shift lock release. I've tried all of the suggestions the internet has to offer and none of it is the solution. I'm down to the last suggestion which is the possibility of the shift interlock solenoid failure. My question is has anyone experienced similar issue and had had to change this thing? What does the part look like? I've taken the shifter trim/console and trying to id this thing. TIA for any info or help on this.

What's history of the shifter in terms of how the car has been cared for? I know people who never clean up a messy car can do all kinds of stupid damage they're oblivious to. One time during Covid we spent days helping someone with a standard Prius shifter malfunction that's much different from Prius C and out of nowhere they admitted they've been hanging all their masks from the shifter to such an extreme amount that it was the source of the failure.

I suspecting it just failed due to age. There's no liquid spilled on it. I've checked the 12V battery and fuse which all tested out fine. When I stop on the brake I can't shift out of Park until I manually press the shift lock release button. I've check AI and it seems to think the shift interlock solenoid could be an issue so I'm down this rabbit hole now.

Your AI didn't work 'because of lack of more specific terms and word 'solenoid'

Run it again with these keywords: parking lock actuator pawl

But more to the point first step in stuff like this is taking apart and cleaning and inspecting as much as possible.

Because this is a thread about a Prius c, I would not be at all surprised if the OP really does mean the shift interlock solenoid, and not the parking lock actuator pawl.
