Regarding that battery tender. Is that something I could hook up to the 12V battery in the back directly? Seems a bit easier? Or?

Yes. Most of them have a simple quick disconnect to make using it easy especially if you don't drive every day.

Consider hooking up a cable with SAE connector to 12v battery and then route it to behind the tail light cover for easy access to charge. While you're at it. Attach yourself an AirTag or Smart Tag 2 (Samsung) so you can track your car if lost or stolen (y) Sometimes your car might get towed way when you think it was stolen.

This is great fun. I love gadgets, and appreciate the brand name recommendations. But I have to ask: if I manage to avoid accidentally bumping the dome lights is there any reason for all this getup? I've driven cars most of my life and never given the 12V battery much thought; certainly didn't buy it any toys. Is the Prius 12V battery more at risk/in need of pampering? I see these gadgets as helping me to avoid asking my neighbor to jump me, but otherwise I'm not so clear on the reason for this.
