    I believe the OEM manual states in the footnotes, after the first coolant change 100K+ miles - your suppose to move to 50K mile coolant changes??? So do you really need SLL coolants at 50K mile intervals? Is that a moot point???

    Just playing devils advocate......

    The drop in interval it to compensate for not getting all the old coolant out. What is the alternative?

    I am only familiar with those as specifications for VW-Audi coolants (there's G12, G12+, G12++, and G13).

    This is indeed true, it seem G13 has glycol partly derived from glycerin (via bio diesel) instead of petroleum. EU likes the environment, but this seem a tad comical since many sources state only 10% of glycol content is derived from that bio source)

    I am currently using G13 at my own risk in my 2005 Wild Guinea Pig Prius.

    Promotional info here: What you need to know about G13 antifreeze and coolant

    Just off top of my head (notes on pc, just on my phone):

    engine coolant: 1.1~1.2 gallon
    Inverter coolant: 0.6~0.7 gallon

    Proper name of Toyota coolant: Toyota Super Long Life Coolant. It’s pre-mixed 50/50 in the States, 55/45 in Canada. I’d be curious to know what ratio Alaska gets.

    Right on and thanks. I'm gonna get 2 gallons and probably serpentine belt too while I'm on it. I'll ask them about alaska.
    Thanks!

    I won't even get a replacement coolant. Just Toyota. Back when its 98k when I bought the car used with almost 0 service history, I started from ground zero and replaced all 3 electric pumps, 1 mechanical water pump, serpentine belt, idler bearing, thermostat and o-ring gasket, coolant, and flush the whole block, radiator and inverter with distilled water, Today is 176k miles and it never gave me 1 single problem along those years and mileage.
    This time I'll just replace the coolant and and belt. I'll do the rest on 200k miles.
    Oooooops. I'm not sure if this car has a thermo cooling fan switch. I'll replace that too.

    Doing this makes it nigh impossible to restore a 50/50 mix, IF you're using Toyota's Super Long Life coolant, which comes pre-mixed, due to residual water in the system. You'd need to resort to a full strength coolant (the "flushing out..." link in my signature* has thoughts on this). A pragmatic approach, if you want a more complete replacement, without such hassles, would be to do two (or more) coolant changes with the pre-mix, in short order, say a week or two apart.

    * On a phone turn it landscape to see signatures.

    It should be fine. Removing the thermostat will release a big chunk of old coolant and whatever is trapped in the engine jackets. You're not gonna get them all just do the best you can.
