The Iranians are defending Iran against the attack by our sociopath in Chief. Our House of Representatives has rejected the War Powers authorization:

In early June 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan war powers resolution to halt unauthorized military action against Iran. The measure, which directs President Donald Trump to remove U.S. Armed Forces from the conflict, now awaits action in the Senate.

Then let's take a longer view.

The Shah was a US ally and was very hard on retrograde muslim elements in Iran. He also pushed Iran into the wider, more international and functional world in which women drove and went to university. Like Sadat and Mubarak in Egypt, he suppressed the sort of people who burn people alive for going to the theater and behead children for flying kites.

Carter undermined that modernization and helped to unleash a mutation of shia that would inflict barbarity on modern iranians, destabilize and impoverish another jewel in the region, and make the US a target as the leader of the modernity it opposed.

What you call a dictatorial monarchy was Iran's constitutional government from which Moseddegh usurped authority and set Iran on a Venezuela like path. Complaining that the UK didn't let that catastrophe play out to its end and about US "national sins" is a pretty specific niche analysis.

Iran was close to then Communist Russia so there were good rationalisms for a repressive state police. I am old enough to remember our own Hoover-McCarthy abuses.

Where do you get your history lessons. Is this because 47 just said “he doesn’t want to be like Jimmy Carter.” he should wish he could be like Jimmy Carter.
“Jimmy Carter and Iran: Crisis, Legacy, and Modern Parallels
Jimmy Carter’s presidency was deeply shaped by his relationship with Iran, which shifted from alliance to crisis in just a few years. In 1977, Carter visited Tehran and called Iran “an island of stability,” maintaining close ties with the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi White House Historical Association. However, rising anti-Shah protests and the Shah’s pro-Western stance alienated many Iranians, especially after Carter allowed the exiled Shah to receive medical treatment in the U.S. in October 1979 White House Historical Association.

The turning point came on November 4, 1979, when Iranian students, backed by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran and seized 66 Americans Wikipedia. The hostages were held for 444 days, until January 20, 1981, when they were released after the Algiers Accords and Reagan’s inauguration Wikipedia. The crisis became a symbol of Carter’s perceived weakness, compounded by economic troubles like inflation and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan Bill of Rights Institute.

Carter’s handling of the crisis drew criticism both domestically and abroad. In Iran, state media later branded him the “architect of economic sanctions” after the revolution, blaming him for the breakdown of relations The Times of Israel. Internationally, the hostage crisis overshadowed his foreign policy and contributed to his defeat in the 1980 election”
