Disease Prevention and Health Reseach

A deep well of knowledge, certainly more than what little I was aware of before:

• "Christian Scientists" - with their anti-transfusion positions often leading in the 1960s court ordered transfusions for minor children.
• Amish and Mennonites - with their claims of living like people of the Bible did
• Selective medical malpractices
  • Vaccine development - the early polio disaster from poor quality control
  • Food as medicine

I remain convinced that there have not been enough generations from the Dark Ages and today. As a species that wages war on ourselves, much to my lament on this "Memorial Day" holiday:

Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery ... features public wreath-laying ceremonies, the placement of American flags on every grave by military volunteers, a Presidential address, and opportunities for the public to place flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. ​

Mom and Dad's grave marker is in Arlington. I remember seeing the flags being put on every grave and later, picked up. My last duty station was next to Arlington and our twice a year physical fitness test involved running along 1/4 mile segment of its boundary wall.

I catch a cold about once about every 3 to 4 years...and I don't get a shot and/or go to the Doctor every time I get a sniffle. I suspect catching the covid cold will follow suit. My immune system is doing just fine thank you.

 

My cold coincided with the pollen season. Took a week before I confirmed the slight fever. Not much to do but let it run its course.

AHIP, the national trade organization representing the insurance industry in the US, announced at the end of May that its members will continue covering routine vaccines through 2027, an extension of a similar policy for 2026, after a halt to the controversial decisions made by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (Acip).

The decision is a “powerful” example of how insurance companies, which have detailed data on health outcomes after vaccination and vaccine-preventable illnesses alike, “are clearly choosing to cover vaccines because they know that they are safe and effective,” said Elizabeth Jacobs, an epidemiology professor at the University of Arizona and a founding member of the grassroots organization Defend Public Health.

“They understand that there is a benefit there to people being vaccinated, especially kids, and I’m sure they’ve run the numbers and they know that it will cost them a heck of a lot more to treat kids with measles who are hospitalized than it is to pay for vaccines,” Jacobs added.
