Nope. It comes from gas tax and gas tax only. Road and bridge and the general fund are two separate accounts in Colorado cities and counties. This is something that has been a subject of controversy for quite some time in my county. There is an "overflow" of revenue into the general fund but law prevents it from being used to repair and improve roads.

But as you point out, there is no good solution.

 

Interesting that fuel taxes are being debated during the so-called 'Prime Day' shopping bonanza.....

 

EV owners pay a tag fee, $300/yr in Alabama. Put everyone on a tag fee, problem solved. Index it by number of wheels and/or weight and the problem is gone. Also solves the trailer problem.

A handful of states, including CA, do have both a flat tax and a sales tax on fuel.

My state is experimenting with various methods of per-mile taxes.

That is why many states already have separate hybrid and plug-in fees added into the annual vehicle registration. Now $225/year for plugins in my state, so my PHEV gets to pay both the full plug-in fee and a good chunk of fuel tax too.

A significant road tire tax will encourage a lot more drivers to drive on severely or dangerously worn tires.

I've long understood that road wear is much more closely correlated to total axle weight than to contact patch pressure. Heavy vehicles cause more flexing of the deeper roadbed, which accelerates surface breakup and pothole formation.

In my state, every vehicle pays annual weight fees, according to a few tables listed in state law, indexed in 2000 lb increments. Regular household passenger vehicles pay mid-2-digit fees, the heaviest trucks pay over $3000. BEVs pay the same weight fees that similar-weight SUVs and pickups were already paying.

Already done in my state, by weight. Trailers also require their own registration and license plate.

Interesting laws such as this need to be READ COMPLETELY.

Step 1 ... States determine their given budget for schools.
Step 2 ... Using Lottery $$$ to cover that given budget.
Step 3 ... Understanding that given state school budgets are never enough.
Step 4 ... Realizing that the Lottery $$$ will always be more than the $$$ budget for schools. Here's the tricky part ... also understanding that after the school budget are covered that the state will use the rest of the $$$ for whatever the whatever they want. Be aware that it ain'te gonna be more $$$ for schools.

Massachusetts funds schools through property taxes, unequally skewing education budgets by affluence and poverty.
There are probably programs that try to rectify this to some extent.
Lottery money is doled out to towns by population, with lower income getting more per capita.
Lottery money can be used at each city and towns discretion

Yea - we often fight with typical USPS delivery people. We have "group" individual mailboxes (near the main entry of our community) & have "large" mailboxes for packages that can't fit in our individual boxes. Our individual 'group' box will have a key (left in it - or not!) that will then unlock large boxes & then (keys can't get removed by anyone other than you USPS). Problem is - USPS can neither get individual packages (much less regular mail) into either our individual nor our bulk boxes correctly. Conscientious Neighbors will *sometimes* find the correct address it's supposed to go to and & walk them over to their house. Others, just steal or throw the bulk (& letter mail) away - - as often we get neither.
Back to Prime. At LEAST Amazon Prime (typically) pulls up in their own trucks & takes a picture so you know where shizzle ends up. Post office? Lol ! ! ! Not so much. USPS's level of competency is TRULY teaching me to hate.
Though retired, I'm often tempted to join one of the various mail/package delivery entities. However, our tax structure within make it worse for us, tax and medical benefits wise. This reminds me of welfare. A woman with multiple kids has no incentive to get married. If a husband enters the picture they lose their benefits.

Here, the K-12 systems spend a bit over $20 Billion/year. Gross lottery revenues are a bit under $1 Billion/year, and over 60% of that is returned as lottery prizes. After prizes, retailer commissions, and operating costs, our lottery agency returns about $0.2 Billion to the state, or about 1% of our public school budgets. And that is then divvied up several ways, not just to education.

1st year of Calif lottery. Working graveyard. Bought one $5 ticket. hit 5 numbers & nearly fell of my chair thinking it also had the bonus number - which would have made it worth in the 6 figures. Oddly - felt depressed when it wasn't the correct bonus number - but just 5 numbers - as now the winnings were only something like $3,800. It was enough to buy I used Honda Accord though.

 

In my region, such services were *allegedly* supplied by Frederick Trump, grandfather of a more widely known person of the same surname. Initially possibly as a side operation to his Seattle restaurant, then more likely as a side operation to his food and mining supply business in the gold mining town of Monte Cristo (now a ghost town), about 75 miles northeast of Seattle. He later moved to Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush, where he made an even larger fortune 'mining the miners' for all the goods and services they needed, including the aforementioned type.

Sure, it's a very old explanation and it could very well be wrong now. In my advancing years I'm getting some things wrong. Anyway, today, I saw gas up there at one place for $3.10. My local station is down to $3.30.

At this rate, we'll see gas below $3.00 a gallon very soon....WHOOP

Yes, Stevenson's....I'm closer to the East side dealership but have visited the West side one. I was amazed at how many new Toyota's are parked all around that place....seems like they need to offer better prices/incentives to help make room!!

By this point, learning should have occurred that presidents of the USA don’t change oil prices for the world, unless they start a war or something all by themselves. Which rarely happens.
It seems it has happened only once, something to say we lived through. The president started a war all by himself and oil skyrocketed in price. Then when it went back down a little as the war eased on his whims, there actually were people cheering him for the decrease. Just as he knew they would.

 

They are sure nice folks at both of them. That's where I go when I need parts. One time they made a small mistake but then really bent over backwards to make it right.

If I ever buy a new car it would be from them, unless I go crazy and get a Slate.

 

Don't hold your breath waiting for them to build a service center nearby. Our city has doubled in size to the point we actually now have superchargers. But the closest service center for Tesla is still hours away.
