There aren't hybrid battery indicator lights. What lights are you looking at that you think are those? Is it this? That means a problem with the hybrid system. There's a lot more to the hybrid system than just the battery, and around two hundred reasons that light can come on. Best to use a capable scan tool and read out the trouble codes explaining why the light is on. How good an idea it is to keep driving the car really depends on the details.
The car won't run on the engine alone if the hybrid system gets too hot or has some other significant problem. If the inverter, hybrid battery or transaxle quits functioning you could be stranded or it might cost you more in repairs. Common issues include the inverter overheating or power components failing (free repair on some fail modes), the hv battery getting too weak, high voltage leakage, brake booster trouble or inverter water pump failure. Some issues can be intermittent; some might force a limp mode.
