What charger(s) are recommended for reconditioning hybrid batteries/cells? I currently have 2 gen2 and one gen3 Prius’s. We’ve been testing and trickle charging and replacing a few cells in these and others over the past year with mediocre results but we want to purchase better tools to recondition more than maintain. But maybe both, eventually. To recondition, an Icharger 410 Duo has popped up doing research. To maintain, both Max Volt and Prolong have come up. What suggestions are there to use for reconditioning? And what for maintenance? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
The best method is not to reconditioned a weak failing battery but to buy a slightly used one and install it. That way you'll be trouble free for many years to come
I have a Gen 2 and a Gen 3. One battery failed in "mode 1" (losing charge overnight due to an internal leak) and one failed in "mode 2" (leak to HV ground, causing the triangle of death). I fussed with both for a long time and finally installed new batteries in both to avoid the hassle and for peace of mind. I'm glad I did. I went to Texas Hybrid Batteries in Weatherford, TX. Matt's a super guy, and did each battery in under an hour.
