You're on a phone? With an iphone I find the built-in browser works quite well for Priuschat. Well, once you install an ad blocker. With one foible, since the "fixes" last year, you have to manually refresh pretty much everything, due to buggy site, not the phone/browser.
Sad story indeed, especially when you wait 3 hours in Canada's winter for a tow truck. New battery changed by dealer on 1 year old 2024 hybrid XLE, we'll see how long we keep this car.
If i can throw some defence to Toyota here, my 2012 Civic had chronic 2 years battery lifespan too. Cured those with a 51R AGM battery. Hyundai Ionics 5 and 6 seems to kill 12v batteriew fast too judging by my neighbor's Ionic 5, a friend's Ioniq 5 and my dad's Ioniq 6.. My 24 killed it's battery in 1 week and my 2025 runs on an LN0 battery as an experiment. Was parked for an entire week as i got the Civic out of storage (hit 300k miles last week), and it started right up when i staryed it up this morning to park it in the garage and plug the 12v battery maintainer on it. As a side note, at the dealership where i work currently, most 12v battery problems occur because salesperson don't know shiit and let them run out of juice.. once they are flat out, you can charge it back but it's going to be heavily on borrowed time allready. Those batteries (Yuasa and Panasonic LN1 cells) don't seem to tolerate being run low often..
Not a Typo. It's a late model year Prius C battery. It's smaller, lighter, less powerful (d'uh) and it was free as it was deemed defective! Charged it and ran a desulphation run on it.. works well now.. There are LN0, LN1, LN2, LN3 and i think LN4 and LN5 too but they are rare. The higher the number, the longer they are. Now as for the why the experiment, well i'm trying to save weight as a way to "hopefully" save gas. It's a hair under 2$ a liter around here so every bit helps.
I know about LN sizes. EN LN0 through LN6 correspond to DIN H3 through H9, respectively. Uplus sells AGM batteries in LN1–LN5. LN0 is likely the least common. Uplus AGM battery on Amazon I thought it was a typo because you ignored the warning in the owner’s manual stating that any battery with less than a 45-Ah capacity would cause the car to self-destruct.
Has anyone had any problems with their 12v battery discharging since their dealership reprogrammed the plug-in charge control ECU and replaced the battery? The Official Fix: Dealerships are instructed to flash a software update to reprogram the Plug-in Charge Control ECU under warranty. If your battery has been completely flattened multiple times, the dealer will typically replace the damaged 12V battery alongside the software patch.
What is really needed is an update to the 12-V BMS software, but I guess they are not doing it because it could void the EPA test.
Just to remind people, the ECU update only applied to the PHEV Prius Prime. The regular HEV Prius did not get any update.
Our 2023 Prime w 25k miles has left me stranded 4 times all with the 12v battery deader than dead. 1st time was within a few months of delivery, Dead #3 was in December 2025 and Last week was the 4th and last time, with this after being in for it routine factory service just 2 weeks ago.. Had it towed to dealer. They have done multiple deep parasitic loss tests over the years which always show the vehicle within spec, and installed new batteries a few times. Can’t fault the service team.. Chatting with the head of service dept and chief of mechanics they also don’t find this situation acceptable but can’t find a cause or solution … so I did. Went to the showroom and asked for a trade in value appraisal, after rejecting their first offer and leaving they called back more in line and I took the check, door didn’t hit me on the way out. While on some levels I loved the car, (great style, adequate handling, great on fuel) having a dead battery and crawling into the trunk as a senior is just not acceptable. There is a programming issue and Toyota has refused to step up. I had been in contact with Toyota USA in December with nothing given but sympathy, Shame on them, SAD. Just my observations but this is the 1st car I’ve had that at 3 years old/25k mi was starting to look tired, the blue paint is shiny having used Griot ceramic products all along (and being garage kept 9 months out of the year) but it seemed to chip easily (thin paint?) and unfortunately shows older than its should, that and at 6’1 the headliner at the drivers door is dirty from my head brushing it on entry/exit. And don’t get me started on cut up low profile tires, Guess I won’t miss it…. Bought a brand new full electric vehicle….. Chuck Ps: Traded in a Prius C in my fleet for this last Prime, great city car, never an issue on that car, only 1dead battery in 8 years… Thanks to Priuschat for being here, hope y’all do better than I. .
Why would you crawl into the trunk? There is a convenient boosting terminal in the fuse box under the hood.
