Was driving from Atlanta to the Gulf and had a fun Rapids Unplanned Depressurization of the front passenger tire. Good thing I’m weird and made myself a spare tire kit.

Tire looked awful and I thought it was because of riding couple hundred yards on the interstate stopping from 70. Of course size is impossible to find, especially in rural FL. But got a shop that could get it, and when they lifted the car they showed me the rest of the tire.

Long story short - alignment issues destroyed the tires, all 4 needed to be replaced. I opted for 215/55 as an experiment - diameter is the same.

Fun pics attached. 30k on the odometer, just hit 3 years, was at the dealer for service 4 months back - didn’t hear a peep.

What do you guys think about 215/55?

They should've caught that on your last tire rotation @ 25K. Looks like it was toe-out really badly. Did you wack a curb really hard or gone over some major pot holes?
I would stop using that dealership; since that's on the basic safety check list. Any blind mechanic should've found that. Makes me wonder what else they're checking off and not doing???? Did the dealership tell you that you needed an alignment and tires????

Nope, I’m at the dealer every 6 months / 5k miles and got “all good”. Tires good, brakes good - can’t be better. Dudes didn’t check it, it seems.

all 4 had inside edge wear, and fronts started just disintegrating (middle pic). Had 2 dozen cars in almost 30 years, never had anything like that. And I autocrossed and did road course and tail of the dragon runs. My fault for not double checking. Got fat and happy and trusted dealer.

I'd take those pictures, alignment paperwork and speak to the dealerships service manager. Their going to say that you whacked a curb, but since all 4 had inside wear - they've been rotating them and not noticing the issue.
Why do 6 month / 5K checks if they don't recognize obvious issues?????

Who knows; they might give you a few FREE oil changes - but I would be afraid they'd screw that up too.....

You can tell that I do my own basic maintenance, so I don't get surprises like that. I also do fluid checks and basic walk around before a long trip.

    Hope this helps....

That's the thing. Best to just stay away as much as practical, DIY.

That wear didn't happen overnight. Does no one do a basic walk-around, check their fluids, or stick their tires anymore?

Couldn't help to notice that you had a mix of tires replaced ... Bridgestone and Toyo A/S Extensa II. Which brand did it originally come with?

Inside wear is tough to find; unless you get on your hands and knees or do your own rotations. Those pictures tells a story of long term neglect and obvious alignment issues. I don't see how that was missed on the dealerships basic safety inspections. There should be notifications in the dealerships paperwork to cover their asset from liability law suits.
