Have a 2013 Prius whose Screen became unresponsive a while back.. Radio and bluetooth were working when I could get to the controls... Had bought a OEM used unit (57032 dash id) to replace a couple years ago but could not find the time or shop to get it replaced, and the box was sitting in my garage. When I went to a dealership this week, asked them if they would replace the unit for me and they did. However, now it appears to have gotten worse in that the Apps button does not work, and neither does Bluetooth ... Would the unit not being used for a while in the garage cause it to go bad? Also, am thinking of getting another unit from eBay to replace this faulty one. Any advice/recommendations from the experienced owners here on the next steps? Do not need a fancy system, since the OEM unit if working with Nav/Bluetooth/Audio would suffice for me for the next few years before replacing the car.
If I were you, I would get an aftermarket unit in there with 7" screen and carplay. Go to crutchfield.com, plug in your vehicle info and they will have recommendations in addition to what specific harnesses you will need.
Bumping because a family member is in a very similar situation (2013 Prius 3 with a failing head unit). Toyota Dealer stated they don't manufacture these anymore, so I am looking for options for a newer head unit/display that also works with the backup camera. This isn't something he can replace himself, so we'd likely go with a professional installation (either local or Best Buy).
An aftermarket unit is unlikely to work with the existing camera and you probably don't want it compared to a new camera. The previous advice is a good way to check your options. The oem system is two pieces in most cases, the head unit and a separate amplifier. So aftermarket retrofit takes some skill but you end up with a high resolution system with Carplay/AA and better online navigation with features like realtime traffic. The easiest and low cost solution is a used mfd and amp that would not lose hybrid car functions and would work with the existing camera.
