This afternoon while driving back to work from lunch, I suddenly heard as I began to accelerate from a stop 1 high pitched long beep (about 10 seconds) followed by two short beeps. It reminded me a computer bios error beep on a computer. The car seems to function ok, and there is no error messages listed on display. Anybody have any ideas what this is? It did it twice so far for the first time this afternoon. I will be listening again on the way home tonight. I would not have heard it if I didn't have my radio turned down. The Prius is a 2005 with 34k miles. It does not sound like the same smart entry beep you get when you leave your key in the car and try to lock it.

I am no expert on beeps but could it have been that your car lost traction as you accelerated?

I'm not sure but I think maybe your smart key got moved in your pocket and lost it radio connection with the car.

I know the first time I ran it really low on gas I got some sort of beep and it went off the screen really fast, are you down to your last square and its flashing?

I was down to the last square, had not yet received the "add fuel" alert, and I had just filled it prior to the beeping. It had a full tank when it beeped with only 1 mile showing after the reset when it started. I leave work in about a half hour and I'll be listening again. (figures something would go wrong just after the warrenty expires!)

Maybe your keyboard isn't plugged in. :p I don't think it is ABS related. I've lost traction a few times now for a split second and only get an idiot light to flash once. Really, no idea.

Not sure what it was. The beep wasn't as loud as a smart key entry or back up beep. It sounded like it was coming from under the dash somwhere behind the tv screen. When I went home last night, it was beeping like crazy. Long beeps lasting nearly a minute! The beep would stop and start as I went over bumps in the road. After about 10 minutes into the drive home, it just stopped. It hasn't done it this morning or this afternoon. Now I have nothing to show to the service guy. Would look like I'm crazy going in there now and saying "my car is beeping at me". My poor Prius has never been the same since that idiot hit me, and the service tore my entire dashboard out  Sometimes when the air conditioner shifts the vents internally, I hear fart noises too! ok.. I hear you guys out there... hmmmm his prius is beeping and farting (that's kinda new). Well, I guess you can't say my prius has no character or soul. :p

Do the beeps kinda waver in frequency? The whole going over a bump thing sounds like either a bad connection (but what beep does the MFD produce, that's video only, right?), or a vibration of some kind (which normally wouldn't be at a fixed frequency, unless there's something always vibrating, and something else that occasionally touches it and acts as a sounding board). Have you tried pounding on the dashboard?

Is there anything on the passenger seat? I've put stuff there before and the car thinks someone's not wearing their seatbelt.

    Are you wearing your seatbelt?

No the beeps didn't waver in frequency, but it did go off and on while wheels were hitting bumps in the road ( a few times). There was nothing in the passenger seat except an envelope. I was wearing my seat belt and the beep wasn't that loud like a seat belt warning. It sounded like it was inside the dash somewhere. Yes, I did pound on the dash and it didn't do a thing. It sounded like a computer bios beep that wouldn't shut off, but muffled behind the dashboard. It is most certainly electrical sounding, not like a fan or anything. I haven't been able to duplicate it since yesterday on the way home. Maybe I should bring in a video recorder of some sort if it starts again and bring it into the service. SO WEIRD! I'm open to any ideas, and if I find out what this is, I will definately let everyone here know. I am suspicious something didn't get put together correctly when service had my dash all torn out.

Maybe I found it, but still not really sure. It could have been my cell phone battery charger that was plugged in the 12 volt connection underneath the glovebox on passenger side. I have a feeling it wasn't plugged in all the way, or may had a loose connection which was causing the beeping either from the charger itself, the the Prius was trying to tell me there is a bad connection. I haven't had the beep since I removed the charger. We'll see!
