Hi everyone. I replaced an ABS actuator on an 08 Prius with the typical codes. Used a part from a local yard off an 09. I didn’t have a mini vci cable yet so I used a fancier HF scan tool to do the ABS bleed at least and clear the codes while waiting for the cable. Car and part ran perfectly fine for a few days. No leaks, fluid consumption, good braking. Then it threw the codes again, reservoir is down. My understanding was that I just needed to do the linear valve calibration once I got the cable. Now I have the cable and have attempted to follow the how to tech stream in 5 minutes guide on ih8mud, but the VM crashes unless I boot into XP safe mode in which case it doesn’t work anyway. Then I sourced version 18 of TS and that didn’t work either, no vim detected. The disc which came with the cable is broken otherwise I would have installed software from it and followed their instructions. I told the vendor it’s broken but they won’t give me a way to access their files online. So presumably there is air in the system now and I need to restart the whole process. I’m trying to use a thinkpad with windows 11 64bit which doesn’t help things. I’ve given up and am trying to find a mobile mechanic who can deal with it, but it’s such an old car it’s just not worth the cost especially this one being an oil burner too.

Can anyone help here? What can I do to get the cable working? Can I find a version of techstream and the drivers for the cable that will work on my thinkpad without running a VM?

I used Autel MaxAP200. $59. Very easy to use. No VM and all those.

Reservoir down? Any leaks ? After replacement, mine had a small leak from the top brake line. I used brand new unit from dealer.

so this particular car has only 147k on it, Hv battery was replaced at some point but it’s a real POS. Oil burner and fuel bladder is screwed. I put in an actuator from an 09, did the manual bleed and then ABS bleed with an icon T7, cleared codes and it ran fine for about 5 days. Dash lit up again and lost braking power, limped home. Returned the t7, got a thinkcar t191 from advance after having no luck with techstream. The t191 does have the full utility for an actuator replacement. So bled the damn thing again, at this point it’s been fully bled at least 3 times. But the tool refused to run the LVC routine. 12v battery fully charged and charger hooked up. Tried over and over. The tool claimed it couldn’t start the routine because of a can communication problem despite being able to show live data and codes no problem. The only two codes remaining that will not go away are LVC related. I’ve returned the t191. I’ve tried to find a mobile mechanic, talked to a Toyota master tech at a local Toyota only shop who says he’s only ever pressure bled with his snap on tool and never had an issue. There are no leaks, although it did “lose” fluid from when the icon was used to when it threw codes again. Checked everywhere. No leaks, so presumably there was just air in the system from the first bleed. At this point, the car is simply not worth it. Is it time to use a paperclip or try a thinkdiag?
