Daughter-in-law spotted a AAA battery way down at the bottom of the cup holder that is on the back of the center console. It wasn't in either of the cup holes, but as far forward on that part as possible. I was able to get it out using some chopsticks. Duracell with a 2014 expiration date, leaked electrolyte, which had dried.

So now I want to pull off that back piece so that I can wipe the dried electrolyte off it and whatever it might have fallen on underneath. The manual on IP-24 (attached), stage 4 of removal says to

REMOVE CONSOLE REAR END PANEL SUB-
    ASSEMBLY
    (a) Pull up the console rear end panel sub-assembly in
the direction indicated by the arrow to detach the 6
clips, and remove the console rear end panel.

    (b) Remove the 4 screws and rear console box cup
    holder.

Will that work if the front part of the console has not already been removed?

The drawing seems to indicate that the entire back piece, that extends to the floor, and not just the part that pivots down as a cup holder, should be pulled up. Or maybe back and up. I don't want to break those clips. Are there any tricks to this?

    Thanks.

Lean down on the cup holder??? Hard to reconcile that with the drawing. The cup holder is shown as attached to the back piece with screws, and the back piece connectors are shown as releasing up. What plops off, just the cup holder or the whole back piece with the cup holder still attached?

That said, it wouldn't be the first time a drawing in the service manual was misleading. There's a great one of the HVAC system which shows actuators on the wrong side of the evaporator.
