I haven't noticed any gas stations selling petrol to alternating even or odd license plate drivers...nor have I noticed long lines at the gas stations.

Not me.
I have a 2-mile commute, a bicycle and a golf cart.
The rest of my fuel use is optional - so I really do not CARE all that much.
Having lived through more than one major hurricane and the 70's, AND the 80's....it's been MY experience that long lines and shortages result from a lack of availability rather than the spot price of oil.

The PRC (People's Republic of California) informs me that there are still too many cars in the road when gas is well over $5 a gallon - so fuel prices are like taxes.

People pay what they HAVE to pay.
