I think I gave her unintended offense, when I used a hypothetical 'teenager' (not meaning her or anybody else in the thread) to illustrate a point about ECU behavior, and it could have seemed I was talking about her. I wasn't, but I can understand the reaction if she read it that way.

I'm pretty sure my rpm got that high going uphill on highway 49 near Loomis in California. There was one point where I was only able to go 15mph (far below the speed limit) when I reached the

Loose hand-tightened bolts when I rushed to reassemble it and one electric connector not properly seated and I had them clean the exhaust manifold, behind the egr cooler since that was inaccessible to me. Walked out only having to pay $180.

    And I
It was originally my grandfather's car but he taught me how to drive in it and I got my driver's license, and he lended the car over to me, designating it as my first car. I'm now 22. I got my license a few weeks before my 19th birthday.

You were referring to my car? Yeah, she's a teenager. 13 years since she was manufactured.

Got in an abusive relationship (mainly psychological abuse and coercive control)but I was glad I was able to escape from the relationship with him (my ex) at the end of 2024 after dating him for two years. Otherwise, it's a long story and off-topic as this is specifically a Prius chat forum.

Losing power. On highway 49 near Loomis in California, the car almost stalled at the top of a steep hill at one point. Google maps took me that route to get somewhere, catching me off guard.

No, I conjured a hypothetical imaginary person out of the air, no one anywhere involved at all in this thread, the kind of imaginary person who might push a sporty-car engine into high revs just for liking the sound of it, even if they are past the peak of the engine's power curve and therefore won't reach the finish line as fast as keeping to the lower RPMs at the peak.

The only reason I conjured that imaginary person was to illustrate the point that the Prius's power management control ECU does not do that. It will always do the math and run the engine where it best produces the power needed at that moment.

That post was never about you in any way. You started the thread, but Higgins909 made a post in it, and I was responding to that post, and the made-up hypothetical teenager was just an illustration for that point.

    Gloria&Suzanne:

The part about the Prius ecu computer "thinking" that over rev'ing an engine for no purpose was "silly" was Chapman trying to be funny. Car computers don't think things are silly.

Being misunderstood on a forum is super common. Some do get snarky or frustrated on purpose; some may seem that way by accident.

The part about a teenager was not about a car or you.

It might have been more accurate to say "When I was a teenage boy many of my friends thought it was cool to rev up an engine for no reason other than trying to impress everybody."

In Texas they allow people to run with very loud mufflers or no mufflers. As a result you occasionally see young guys "gunning it" as they drive by creating a noise you can hear inside a house 100 feet away. These guys are often "teenagers" or older, driving a Mustang or old truck.

It is the reason guys take longer to "mature" than girls and even have to pay higher car insurance rates until they are 25 or older.

Bottom line: It was not about you or your car.

If the engine unexpectedly slows down and "almost stalls" in that circumstance (as opposed to revving fast, which you mentioned earlier), it's possible there's a problem with fuel delivery. Nobody can reliably diagnose the issue without more information.

Every time I hear " takes longer for guys to mature" I think it's like saying it takes longer to become a doctor :)

I notice it a lot in California and it's illegal (loud mufflers) I got an unresolved recall done on the Prius related to hybrid inverter faults, and I think the incident may have been at least partially related to the fault.

Before, I just simply thought there was too much oil in the bottom of the manifold. Also, can a water pump go bad without an obd2 code? I'm seeing pink coolant crusts by the engine water pump. IMG_20260708_134137814.jpg IMG_20260617_145314491.jpg
