Battery Power for Lawn equipment -- is it time?

Ok, so when doing the packed snow bank left by the city plow, it needs to be installed? Sounds like trouble than it's worth.

Our Toro snowblower broke down during last winter. It was repairable, but whole axle and auger connection needed to be replaced. The parts cost would be about 60% of the the new machines cost. And the mine was over 10 years old. So decided not to fix it. I thought it was the great chance to invest in the electric snow blower. EGO's two stage blower was rated highly and comparable to gas engine snow blower in many of reviews. I was ready to pull a trigger... But... no local store had it in stock. I had to wait for 3 weeks to be delivered from one online store. It was middle of winter. The next storm was imminent and my only snow blower was inoperative.

In the end, I ended up buying an Ariens 24" two stage snow blower that was in stock at local store, and a few hundred dollars cheaper than the EGO. Yeah, it has gas operated engine. But after using it the latter half of the last winter for at least 4 big snow storms, I have no regret. The sheer power is amazing. It is 100% better than the smaller more compact Toro I had before. No bogging down on the end of the driveway wall of compacted snow the road plow leaves every snow storm. I still want to try the EGO... but that is not likely to happen anytime soon. I am counting 10+ years of service from the Ariens before needing to be replaced.

 

That’s a bummer. In my region ACE Hardware is where we got ours. Regional chain, but they have them in stock.
Home Depot used to carry them, but I don’t believe they do anymore.

 

Yes, ACE and Lowe's had it. But not in stock at local store. And even if they had it in stock, the local for me is about 1 hour drive. It might have fit in the back of our EQEV, but if not, delivery cost, plus some assembly required after receiving.

I ended up buying Ariens at local authorized dealer for farming equipments. They had it ready to go with full tank of gas dropped off on my driveway next day, a day before 15" of snow hit.

I wanted to be impressed by EGO, but... I think, if I bought it, it would have cost almost twice the cost of Ariens after needing to buy extra set of batteries.

 

I bought the Ryobi two stage 40V snow blower (which is actually 80V as two batteries are in series). It throws snow further than my old 10HP 28" snow blower. The only thing I miss is the extra 4" of snow clearance but being able to clear the driveway at 11pm trumps that.

However, no blowers I've owned throws further than my 60" snow blower attached to my 30 HP diesel tractor lol.

 

I think that your 40v batteries are in parallel, not series.
