Steering wheel swap or button remapping

    Has anyone swapped the steering wheel on a Gen 5 Prius with one from a Gen 4 or other model? Or, does anyone know if it's possible to rewire or repin the connector for the buttons in the ADAS cluster (right hand side)? I want to have the cruise control buttons in a slightly more convenient spot than "as far from the driver's thumbs as possible".

    I know that most of the Toyota steering wheels are mechanically interchangeable, but I'm not sure if an older wheel would cooperate electrically, especially with the capacitive touch sensors in the newer steering wheels. Any of the previous gen wheels with the cruise control stalk would be perfect, but I'd probably settle for the new Corolla/RAV4/Lexus ES wheels if remapping/older wheels weren't possible.

    The only thing I know for certain is that the car won't care if you hook up a steering wheel that doesn't have capacitive touch built-in. You would no longer have the option, of course, but you won't get error messages or anything. I went the other direction and installed a capacitive touch steering wheel out of a Prius PHEV(just like yours) into my Prius HEV that didn't come with one. It plugged in and worked without any problems or additional wiring or programming needed. So I have to believe the opposite is also true.

    Toyota just realized they were accidentally giving me free access to the wiring diagrams and repair manuals and took it away or else I could tell you if the wiring was the same for some of the models you mentioned.

    One thing to note is that if you go to a different style of steering wheel, that also means a different air bag. And steering wheel assemblies brand new from Toyota are stupid expensive. Getting one from a junkyard is pretty much the only sane option.
