Just as the subject says, is the glovebox light supposed to come on and stay on all the time when the headlights are on, even if the glovebox is closed? I know the standard is for the light to come on when the glovebox is opened, but I noticed a faint glow coming from the opening the other night, and realized mine just stays on.

Yes, that's the way it works. Apparently, it's cheaper to let it glow than put in a switch that would need fixing. Have you checked the fridge? :)

<_< There are numerous previous comments regarding the lower Glove Box light.

When I first began to post questions on PriusChat, I, too, asked questions which had been answered numerous times before. That gave me a good lesson: Use the "Search" feature and explore posts for at least several weeks prior to asking a question which has been answered. I suppose I am a slow learner :D

    Yes, that's normal

What would be abnormal is if your Glove Box Light went off when you turned your headlights off :)

It's not cheaper to repair a switch, it's cheaper to NOT have the switch to begin with. But how much can a glove box switch add to cost of the vehicle? Pretty lame in my opinion of Toyota.

When I had my Prius I found that if I rearranged the contents of my lower glovebox so that something black was on top, the light wouldn't reflect out of the cracks around the glove box door. If I had a white sheet of paper on top, the light reflected back would be pretty noticeable. Try rearranging the stuff in your glovebox some late evening and see what happens.
