Brakes making weird noise and lights came on

    Hello fellow Gen 2 prius owners,

    I have a 2009 Toyota Prius 158k miles. Over the weekend the Brake light, and brake warning light, ABS light, and traction control light flipped on. It has brake fluid, but I haven’t noticed any difference in brake performance. In addition, it has been making some clucking sounds like a chicken when I step on the brake, it’s louder if I step on it harder. Any thoughts on the problem?

    the sound is coming from the actuator and fairly common on older prius. you'll need a prius aware scanner to read the trouble codes.

    Okay, I’ll look into that. My friend has a fox well NT630 plus he said he would let me borrow. Based on fox wells website it looks like it is compatible. If not, any recommendations on code readers?

    also, I found a service bulletin for a different abs actuator then the original but I can’t seem to find any of the replacement actuator.

    autel is supposed to be pretty good with prius, I haven't used it. there's a thread here, but search is broken.

    Sometimes additional online Toyota dealer discounts up to 25% are available around federal holidays. The next would be the week before Labor day.

    Shops with accounts can often get big discounts from the local dealer if you know someone at such a shop.
