Was listening to an old CarTalk episode on NPR radio and they did the old "what is the 710 Cap under the hood?" BTW, No lie, whenever I turn on CarTalk, my German Shepherd Dog demands to go outside. Used to my wife and kids running away, but the dog? Everyone's a critic. Anyway, been trying to introduce the grandkids to basic car repairs and wondered if any of you knew of other "funnies" I could use?
Everybody's gotta start somewhere: first car and doing maintenance, changing transmission fluid, see the drain bolt is a socket head cap screw (name I learned later), with a square recess in the head. I phoned up the dealership service department, ask if they had the "special tool" for this. Service writer wasn't sure, asked one of the mechanics, then tactfully explained to me, that they use a 3/8" drive ratchet wrench.
At least you didn't try using a 10mm hex L-wrench on it. No way of getting enough leverage on that. Even tried using the longest box wrench I had to extend and try breaking it lose. That's what I had in the tool box and my old VW tools didn't fit. I eventually stuck a crowbar into my wallet and bought the correct tool for the job.
OP: blinker fluid; topping the oil doesn't mean up to the rim of the oil filler hole ; and for the more advanced Padawans excited about getting hands ground-up-resto-dirty (esp if working on older metric motorcycles / ATVs)... assign them to undo and replace every loom 'ziptie' (in my day, used to mean these serrated flat (~3/8" / 9.6mm wide) JDM things with a serrated slot and little aquarium-hose-cut tail tamer... that with years on the car, permanently developed a permanent curl -- thus the ability to painfully fling the working (pointy) end back into holder's nail beds and cuticles, like a scorpion Don't forget to remind them to stop filling up petrol at the first click of the pump nozzle, esp in a car 2010 or newer -- topping off past that first click can expensively kill evap charcoal canisters and purge valves. And if getting a Prius pre-5G... about the wonkiness of the fuel door opening delay, and hazard of leaving the pump nozzle filling unattended and locking the doors, closing the fuel filler and spraying gallons of 87 all over the creation, whilst they get cans of Monster and a chili dog
This one got officially updated with the "dy" brand laptop. Hewlett Packard gave themselves a bit of a problem there.
Yes; dy brand is a Chinese knock-off of the HP laptop. Ohh; that's right they're all manufactured in China. Kinda like the Fremont joint venture Toyota/Chevy plant. Toyota Corolla and Geo Prism would roll off the assembly line and get different badging on the trunk area. You'd occasionally get a Toyota Prism or Geo Corolla roll off the line and QC would catch it.
While most are made in China, some are also made in Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and the United States.
