It won't fade away, it will be routed to the dead letter office.

As soon as they turn the continuation of the USPS (in its present form) into a "haves versus have nots" argument....it's grab your ankles time.
I'd be willing to bet that this service could be run profitably. I'd actually settle for only being 7-8 figures in the hole, truth be told!
We're not going to get that.
If the USPS continues to bleed out at its current rate, we have billions worth of exposure on this institution. As soon as the punditry turn it into the next equal rights battleground for the economically disadvantaged, then no burden will be too great to bear in keeping this "vital service" afloat.
Crank up the printing presses!!! :(

Oh, I'm not saying that we need to have mail delivery six days a week. Personally, I think mail delivery could go to one day a week to get those absolutely vital need to have stuff delivered but with the power of a union with that many members it isn't going anywhere.

The irony of this statement looking back from now,

until recently a first class letter took 2-3 days, now they claim 5 but mine take 8-10

enschmidtification is being used to try to force it to become so bad that when they privatize delivery like England has done for certain packages/areas you will be grateful that they only loose a full month of packages for an entire city.

Id.me, VA healthcare and apparently the food stamp card you can never use are already all in the unusable category

    What's a 'food stamp card?'

I just checked and my ID.me is still working as advertised.
I use it for my 10% Apple discount, IRS, Social Security, TRICARE....all manner of things.
I actually trust private corporations MORE than I trust dot.gov with my personal data because I was victimized in the early 2000s by cyberattack on the Office of Personnel Management which stole background investigation databases.
It's actually possible sometimes to hold a private company accountable.
Granted...we never do this (Wells Fargo, Experian, et al.) but I have the opportunity at times to take my money somewhere else.

    If noting else?
We pay less for the incompetence that is sometimes forced upon us when dot.gov privatizes.
With the USPS, we have to collectively 'pay for the thing' and then I have to pay them out of pocket AGAIN for a USPS PO Box because their delivery to a box inside their actual POST OFFICE is only partially incompetent, and I at least have 24/7 access to the box.

ID.me fraud has its own subreddit as far targets, its a new gigantic theft magnet.

nothing like centralizing theft risk so the criminals only need to hack one thing instead of many, then make it difficult for legitimate users to get things straightened out when suspicious activity occurs.

    meh....
I went "10 questions deep" on this since it was adopted by Social Security and the IRS - and I'm pretty convinced that most of the 'grave' ID.me "issues" arise from Id10T errors or disgruntled competitors and civil serpents.

If you've ever filled out an SF-86 for a security INCLUDING DNA digital and other biometric data only to see all of that data get scraped and sold to the ChiComms - with ZERO dot.gov accountability, then the idea that somebody might steal your ID.me account to gain access to your apple 10% discount sounds rather trivial.

I suppose if I cooperate FULLY that they might gain access to my SS or IRA account but what can 'they' do with that?
    Pay my taxes?

ALL of that only sounds horrible because the alternative would be to NOT use the on-line features and thus be subjected to the aforementioned USPS and in-person contact with the civil serpents.

    So does Elvis conspiracy theories....
Sorry, but that's been MY experience with dot.gov!

ID.me cannot arrest me for non-compliance.

The post office still works fine where I live, no complaints. I get my few meds by mail, gets here fast. They still deliver a lot of legal documents including new credit cards etc, gets here fast. Letters to daughter’s house, birthday card etc, take the same as before, second day. Actually before DeJoy, who was put in to rig election mail for 2020 but never did it, may have been a little faster. Maybe someday there will be an experienced postmaster again.

A long-ago joke was that as the stamp prices increase, the price per day for delivery has remained constant at 6 cents per day.

    You have 24/7 access?

Around here, some of them are closed and locked outside of business hours to prevent homeless camping inside.
