BC Hydro continues to make significant progress expanding its provincewide charging network, including:

Rapid expansion: BC Hydro's public charging network has grown fivefold in the past two years, adding more than 700 new charging ports.

Expansion to 3,500 ports: In July 2026, BC Hydro announced plans to more than triple its public charging network to 3,500 charging ports by 2035 through a $700-million investment in larger charging hubs and faster charging technology. More information can be found at bchydro.com/fastcharging.

State-of-the-art hubs: Over 40 hubs are now open in every region of the province, each featuring 8 to 22 charging ports, to help minimize wait times for drivers. Many sites can accommodate medium-duty electric vehicles.

Next-gen fast chargers: BC Hydro deployed new 400-kilowatt and 350-kilowatt chargers at some locations, capable of delivering up to 100 kilometers of range in just a few minutes.

Completion of the Electric Highway: With fast chargers placed about every 150 kilometers along major routes, the Government of B.C. completed the Electric Highway in September 2024. BC Hydro owns and operates 85 per cent of the highway's 155 charging locations.

Award-winning network: Recognized in 2026 with both a ChargeHub Award and a Chartwell Best Practices Gold Award for excellence in EV charging and customer experience.

Access for all EVs: BC Hydro is the largest fast-charging EV network in British Columbia and offers all connection types – CCS, NACS and CHAdeMO.

Network expansion: In the past year alone, BC Hydro has tripled the size of its public charging network, adding 418 new charging ports.

State-of-the-art hubs:About two-dozen new hubs have opened in every region of the province, each featuring 8 to 22 charging ports, to help minimize wait times for drivers.

Next-gen fast chargers: BC Hydro is optimizing charging speeds to fit customer needs. At grocery store locations, 180 kilowatt dual chargers align with the average 40-minute shopping visit, while sites that benefit from faster turnover feature next-generation ultra-fast chargers up to 400 kilowatts – delivering about 100 kilometres of range in just minutes.

Completion of the Electric Highway: With fast chargers placed about every 150 kilometers along major routes, the Government of B.C. completed the Electric Highway in September 2024. BC Hydro operates 114 of the highway’s 155 charging locations, making up more than 70 per cent of the network.

BC Hydro surpasses 800 EV charging ports and unveils its highest-powered charger in Burnaby

The urban charging hubs are all 180kW split units (so 90kW each if two vehicles are charging). This is much better than the single or twinned 50kW and 100kW units they have within the major city centres. The 50kW and 100kW are 100A and 200A/500V units respectively. I don't know the specs of the 180kW units (forgot to take a look). The 350kW and 400kW are obviously 1000V units. (from ABB and Alpitronic respectively)

IIRC that's pretty much part of vancouver, right?
Seems I saw the glow of flaring at what was most likely from a refinery many years ago in the area.

Which? There is one oil refinery in Metro Vancouver. A small one by today’s standards.
