How can i install li-ion batterys on my prius

Everyone that tries these kind of modules li ion they never work correctly . Not sure the issue and really don't care but people have tried

 

just wire them up in parallel, shouldn't be a problem

 

You have to wire the mess up until you make 200 volts .

 

The fusion outage is 281V I wouldn't be afraid to try a whole pack like that in a Prius I've seen close voltages in a Prius . Probably won't hurt a thing If try it if I had the pack. There's some other things that plug up to the battery pack that may have to be sorted

 

I'd just wire it up in a box in the hatch and see how it performs

 

maybe rewrite the bus software to prevent an explosion, or maybe use the bus from ford

 

The problem is the hybrid system monitors 14 battery voltages (2 modules each) and the total voltage. It expects the voltage charge discharge characteristics of niMh and the system will code and go as far as shutting down if the characteristics are not the same. The most well known seller of lithium retrofits had to fake the voltage feedback resulting in unreliable and unsafe operation. Fires and very short lifespans resulted.

Lithium also needs more monitoring points than niMh for safety and reliability.

Another company is working on a retrofit gen3 Prius bms control similar to a successful implementation they developed for Honda Insights.

The best way to get lithium is to buy a car that was engineered for the chemistry. Toyota used lithium in overseas Prius v's and in certain gen4 and newer hybrids.
