What is the difference between Electric/Gas and Full Hybrid EV-Gas?

    I'm trying to figure out which ABS system my Gen 3 prius needs. The official Toyota parts website is asking me to choose between "Base 1.8L L4 - Electric/Gas" and "Base 1.8L L4 - FULL HYBRID EV-GAS (FHEV)"

    Of course they have different ABS parts that are not compatible with each other, there's no definition of the difference, and entering my VIN simply brings me to the page asking for me to choose. Foolishly, I had a local mechanic replace these a year ago with used parts, and the new parts developed the same leak about a month after the warranty ended, so I'm less likely to go with whatever part number is in there in case the mechanice used the wrong part number.

    How can I know which parts I need for my prius?

    If I had to guess, I'd say Full Hybrid EV-Gas means plug-in, but I haven't found a single instance of that online. Even looking at trim levels available online, nothing shows FHEV.

    While I ultimately want to know how to find the right parts for my prius, I'm also looking specifically for the correct Brake Master Cylinder and Brake Booster.

    Any tips?

    Yeah your VIN number and exact production date dictate all of this . You'll be looking this up on the Toyota website trying to get a big discount so Toyota will handle you don't plug you're car in? No so you HEV no P

    Pose the question to a dealership parts department? If they don't know, can't sort it out, the system is broken.

    Strong hunch it's regular 3rd gen versus plug-in version though.

    That's surprising to me; that's exactly what entering the VIN is supposed to save you from.

    Just an aside, the Prius has a very integrated electronic braking system, with ABS being only one of that part's several responsibilities. "Brake actuator" is what we normally call it.

    Thanks everyone. I did reach out to the parts department via email, but I'll call if I dont' hear anything by the time I actually need to order parts.

    I'll make a different post about my ABS journey... this is my 3rd Toyotoa hybrid with the same issue and I've already sunk $$ on used parts that failed. :/

    Also, I will post back here when I solve the engine/trim type with Toyota Parts.
