When the breaker is 277 volts 15 amps it certainly can handle several 110vac EVs charging on said circuit when the lights are off

Most portable EVSEs seem to pull 12 amps from 120VAC, which is the limit for a 15 amp breaker. I.e. just one, not several, and only when the streetlights are off.

Kick it up to 200V+, and these EVSEs pull more current. So if they don't "let their smoke out" at 277VAC, they should immediately pop the breaker, except when plugged into those PHEVs that are limited to 3.3kW.

I suppose that's true but as it is right now the circuit is shut off during the daytime so that would take a bit of rearranging- electrically speaking. Of course most of the population is at work, not hanging out next to a light pole during daytime hours so although it sounds great, it lacks practicality. Not to mention during summer time, many areas have their highest draw from air conditioners on nearby Transformers. That would have to be upgraded as well. Ever priced a Transformer lately? Tesla on occasion has had extremely expensive Breakers stolen from there locked up Transformer rooms by electricians that knew what they were doing without getting killed

277vac is commonly used with a small low cost passive device to make 110vac in industrial locations .

our ancient light poles in business/workplace parking lots have 277 15 amp breakers and 110v outlets under a cover at the base, lots of areas are prewired and could easily be adapted for workplace or business /customer trickle charging. And yeah a lot of people working at a factory work at least part of their shift during the day meaning some could take advantage of it as a perk.

a 15 amp 277 is actually rated continuously and generally can supply 34amps of 110vac without any issue, that’s at least 2 “15amp” outlets
