I'm a new Prius owner (2007 Silver Pine Mica with #6) and am having trouble with a few things on the display screen. I've been running with my headlights on during the day and one day I changed the map screen to the day display from the night display. Now I can't find a way to change it back since it memorized my one time preference. I just get a screen saying Display Off and OK. Anybody know how I can fix that?

    Pam,

The brightness control is all the way to your left and low on the dashboard. It is a little wheel that you spin with your thumb. Turn on the lights and move it down. All the way up till it clicks gets it stuck in 'Day' mode.

You might have turned the dash light all the way up. Turn it down a bit and you will see the day/night switch.

The "Day mode" button is visible only when the headlights are turned on.

Kindly explain the workings of the day/night screen settings. I've read through the manual a few times but I find it somewhat unclear.

With the headlights on, press the Display button on the upper left corner of the MFD frame. A "Day Mode" button will appear. Press it and it will brighten up ("Day Mode" On), press it again and the button will dim ("Day Mode" Off).

While in the navigation screen the map has a light background in the "Day Mode" and a dark background in the "Night Mode." In the rest of the screens the difference appears to be only in the brightness level.

Thank goodness there are Prius experts on PriusChat! I "lost" my Day Mode touch-button on my display screen, and could not figure out how to get it back. The owner's manual is worse than useless, at least for this problem. Thanks to your answer to another new Prius owner with the same problem, I was able to restore my Day Mode function button.

Now, can you tell me just what the Day Mode is supposed to accomplish? I turn it on, off and cannot see any difference in the multi-function display. I had hoped with the Day Mode off, that when I used to wheel to turn down my dash lights that the MFD would also dim. No luck there. I have found, however, how to turn the MFD completely off for when I drive at night. My practice has always been to turn off ALL dash lights for night driving as I find it improves my night vision.

Thanks for being there for us first-time Prius owners.

I am a contented owner of the 2007 pkg 6 Prius. The GPS screen I thought, had a “night color screenâ€. The Owners Manual alludes ever so briefly to this and shows the technique in using the “Display “command button and then selecting the “Day Modeâ€. There is also reference to 3 differing “types†of which I can find no reference to my Prius being a Type 1,2 or 3.

There is a web site, http://www.toyota-showroom.com/partner/ToyotaNavPrius/Toyota_nav.html?ref=t.com that presents the “how to’s†of the GPS’s operation and it also eluded to there being a “night screenâ€. I guess my question is, am I missing something in all this “night screen†confusion?

Then as I was about to publish this pearl of confusion, I took to reading the “Posts†on Prius Chat and realized that I was not alone and better yet, the answers were readily at hand. I went out to the car, started it, pressed the Display button, turned on the head lights, the “day mode†command appeared, I pressed it and Walla! I do hereby resend the question and extend my heartfelt thanks!

Day mode makes the displays brighter and makes Nav (if equipped) show a white background when headlights are on. Day mode is ALWAYS on if the thumb-wheel on the dash to the left of your steering wheel is rolled all the way up. So if that's the case, the soft button has no effect.

So, if that wheel is "clicked" into the top position, roll it down a little. Then, with headlights on, try toggling the "day mode" soft button and you should see the effect.

Basically, the use I find for "day mode" is for times during daylight hours when I need headlights on, but still want the display nice and bright. For example, during rain or other weather, where headlights are prudent, but the ambient light is still bright enough to wash out the displays if they're in night mode.
